Knowledge Management System
- To replace existing mainframed base system, with a client/server based system.
- New system will have full 'Knowledge Management' capability, including: Document
Management, Contact Management, email, desktop faxing, network printing and
network scanning functionality.
- New system will offer maximum fault tolerance.
- System must have remote connectivity for mobile users.
- Install and configure new switched based local area network.
- Firm decided on PC DOCS DOCSOpen document management software, InterFace InterAction
Contact Management software. Both SQL Server based network applications.
- Firm decided on complete Microsoft Backend (utilizing all of Microsoft's BackOffice Suite).
- Firm spans several floors (~200 users).
- Switched based network using 3COM family of products. Using 3COM's Transcend for
network monitoring and troubleshooting.
- Divided network into two segments, each with their own WINS server. Primary
servers (PDC and BDCs).
- Use Microsoft SQL Server (v6.5) for SQL based network applications.
- Use Microsoft Exchange (v5.0) for email functionality.
- Use RightFAX faxing software for desktop faxing functionality.
- Use Microsoft's SMS for system and desktop management.
- Use Shiva's LANRover products for Remote connectivity.
- Configure File Server, SQL Server, SMS Server, and Exchange/RightFAX server with
RAID 5 storage array's.
- Use ARCServe for system backups. Implement a weekly, and Monthly, backup rotation.
