CHAPTER 4
UNIFORMS AND EQUIPMENT
4.01 BASIC UNIFORM
A. All Law Enforcement Explorers shall possess, at all
times, a serviceable uniform and related equipment
necessary for the participation and performance of
law enforcement activities.
B. Department Supplied Equipment:
1. One silver Explorer badge or Patch
2. One pair of S&W chained handcuffs
3. One basket weave handcuff case
4. One basket weave flashlight holder
5. One Explorer ID Card
6. Two pairs of basket weave belt keepers
7. One basket weave glove pouch
8. No more then four B.S.A. Explorer or four
W.C.S.D. Explorer patches
9. One orange traffic vest
10. One orange traffic cone
11. One short sleeve T-shirt
12. All rank insignia
C. Required Explorer Equipment
1. One long sleeve uniform shirt
2. One short sleeve uniform shirt
3. One pair of uniform pants
4. One basket weave duty belt
5. One flashlight
6. One silver name plate
7. Other items that are approved may be added
4.02 OBTAINING UNIFORMS
Department issued equipment will be issued by the Post
Captain or a Post Advisor. An Equipment and Uniforms
sign-out sheet will be used to record the issuance of all
equipment. Explorers will be required to sign a
statement of responsibility for equipment received.
4.03 RETURNING UNIFORMS
A. The Post and Department provided items are the
responsibility of the Explorer. They are to be kept
clean and serviceable at all times.
B. Upon resignation or termination from 151, all
uniforms and equipment will be returned within two
weeks. Failure to return Department property may
result in criminal prosecution.
4.04 ADDITIONAL EQUIPMENT
In addition to the basic uniform, Explorers should
possess the following:
1. Two black ink pens
2. One note pad
3. Hand Held Radio (will be signed out and in from the
CJC).
4. One whistle
5. One clipboard/organizer
4.05 WEARING THE UNIFORM
A. All Law Enforcement Explorers, regardless of rank,
shall wear the basic uniform during all inspections,
activities, and service projects unless otherwise
directed by a Post Advisor. The uniform shall not be
worn at any event except official Post functions. In
addition, the uniform should not be carried with the
Explorer unless he/she is going to or from an
Explorer meeting or activity in which a uniform is
required. Also, Explorers on a Leave of Absence will
not wear or carry their uniform with them until they
return to active status and as provided above.
B. Explorers must be in a clean, pressed, and complete
uniform before being allowed to participate in Post
activities which require uniforms. Those Explorers
who do not possess a uniform will be in appropriate
civilian attire before being allowed to participate
in Post activities. Jeans, T-shirts, and shorts will
not be allowed unless specifically designated by the
Post Advisor.
C. When wearing the short sleeve shirt, the shirt shall
be tailored in such a way as to minimize blousing.
The shirt shall be clean and pressed with Military
creases.
1. The official W.C.S.D. Law Enforcement Explorer
patch will be sewn on the left sleeve of the
shirt one inch from the shoulder seam and
centered on the sleeve.
2. The name plate will be centered and 1/8 inch
above the right breast pocket.
3. Ink pen(s) shall be inserted into the inner
portion of the left breast pocket.
4. All Explorers shall wear the insignia for their
rank as follows:
a. The Officer insignia shall consist of a
silver W.C.S.D. Custom Collar Insignia that
shall be worn up-right placed above the
second row stitching on both collars.
b. The Corporal and Sergeant insignia shall
consist of silver bars that shall be worn
centered 1/4 from the tip of each collar.
c. The Lieutenant and Captain insignia shall
consist of silver bars that shall be worn
centered 1/4 from the tip of each collar.
D. Explorers shall wear uniform trousers. The
trousers shall be tailored to eliminate
bagginess and shall be kept in a manner to
maintain sharp creases.
E. Explorers shall wear all leather gear once
issued and shall maintain the gear by
regular use of polish.
F. Explorers shall wear plain black shoes or
boots. Footwear must be neatly polished and
free of dirt at all times.
G. When shoes instead of boots are worn,
Explorers shall wear plain black socks when
wearing the Explorer uniform.
H. A black belt shall be worn on the uniform
pants and placed under the duty belt.
I. A light uniform will consist of the Explorer
T-shirt and either shorts or blue jeans.
This will be designated at time of wear.
J. The Explorer T-shirt will remain the property
of the post and will be purchased by the
Explorer upon separation.
4.06 HAIR STYLES
A. Male Explorer
1. Hair must be neatly trimmed and arranged at all
times.
2. Hair must be conservatively cut. Extreme
hairstyles will not be allowed.
3. Hair length will not be permitted below the
middle of the ear and below the bottom of the
collar.
B. Female Explorer
1. Hair must be kept neatly arranged and in a
conservative style.
2. Extreme hairstyles will not be permitted.
3. Hair that exceeds seven inches will be worn in a
bun, ponytail or braided.
C. Beards and Mustaches
1. Beards and mustaches will not be permitted.
Explorers will be clean shaven during any Post
activity.
4.07 JEWELRY
A. Earrings, if worn, should be conservative and
post-type. Earrings may only be worn by females.
B. Necklaces and bracelets will not be worn while in
uniform.
C. The wearing of rings should be limited to one hand.
4.08 ID CARD
The Explorer ID card (once issued) must be carried at all
times while engaged in any kind of Post function. It
must be displayed on the outer most garment while in the
Sheriff's Department or any other facility. An Explorer
may display his/her badge in replace of the ID card.
4.09 PHYSICAL CONDITION
Each Explorer will be responsible for keeping in good
physical condition. Each Explorer will keep at a set
weight in correspondence with his/her height. This will
be checked every three months. If in violation of the
above, the Explorer will have a set period of time to
correct the violation. This motion is important to the
professional look of the uniform and the Post as a whole.
