Den Flags - WDYB 2006

Cub Scout dens have been called “gangs with a purpose”. The name of the game is TEAMWORK. What better way to begin that concept than with a vocal and a visual representation of your group.

Take into consideration that this is Cub Scouts/Boy Scouts. Try to get the Scouts used to working with natural materials. Discourage plastics and other non-biodegradable base materials. But also discourage the use of natural materials that harvesting might negatively impact the environment (feathers/wings of certain species of birds, hides of endangered animals, cutting trees for this project, etc.) The materials list is not going to exclude the use of markers or paints, but the key is BOY MADE.

The key requirement is “BOY MADE”. After that judges will be looking for the following:

 ___      Unique materials

___      Unique use of materials

___      Legibility – is it easy to recognize and read from a distance

___      Does it include all of the required elements listed below?

___      Can it be easily displayed and carried by the Den?

___      Scout Spirit…does it promote the positive aspects of the den name and totem?

To be included on the flag:

___      Pack Number

___      Den Name

___      Den Emblem/Totem

___      Council Name (SHAC is acceptable)

___      District Name (Rising Star District)

___      Den Members Names (first names only are acceptable)

Den Yells - WDYB 2006

Appropriate language is the key. No inappropriate, discriminatory, defaming language will be accepted.

Suggestions:

·         Try to identify the pack and den name

·         Cadences are good

·         New twists on old cheers

·         Short Songs – old favorites with new words

·         Den Totems are a great resource
