Rules
Pertaining to Class-Time:
- Only one student per
computer.
- Only students, teachers, and
supervisors in the classroom.
Step-by-step Class
Facilitation:
1)
Find students for enrollment.
a.
So far, word-of-mouth has been
sufficient, but soon it may be necessary to advertise on the radio or in
newspapers.
b.
Use Advertisement Cards.
Consider Free Internet Cards as incentives.
c.
It is best to have students pay
beforehand, following the First Pay First Serve policy. Often times a potential
student will promise to come, but will not show up risking a vacancy in the
class.
2)
Make enough copies of the following
for each student: Class Policies (Filed in the WDYHCC after they are
signed at the beginning of class), Information for Students (for students
to take home with them at the beginning of Class), Class Outline (given
at the beginning of class – students can take them home with them or put their
name on them and keep them at the Center), and Class Survey (to be
completed during the last session). Also make sure there are enough floppy
disks available for students if they wish to purchase them.
3)
First Session:
a.
Take money and write Receipts.
b.
Fill-out and hand-out
Student ID cards.
c.
Hand-out Information for Students
for students to take home with them. Have them fill out the times and days of
their class.
d.
Have students sign Class Policies,
staple them and file in the Classes – Archived folder.
e.
Sell floppy disks to those
students who do not have their own or if students want, remind them to bring
money for disks next session
f.
Hand-out the Class Outline and
have students write their names on them.
g.
Begin Class.
4)
Record and post student information by
using the file Student Registration in the Community/Classes
Folder.
5)
Log any problems, questions, or
suggestions in the WDYHCC Log Book.
6)
Use displayed printed material or
lesson plans as examples (the Rules print-out displays columns and landscape
orientation; the lesson plans have headers and footers; the Price list is
double-spaced; the physical folders on the shelf help describe computer file
folders; also see the Example Materials to be used as Teaching Aids
folder in the file cabinet, which includes short-cut keys and a resume).
7)
Tell the students near the end of the
course that if they recommend a friend to register and sign up for a future
class they will receive a card for three free hours of Internet.
8)
Prepare
Certificates
a.
In the Community/Classes find
the Certificate of Completion, insert the names of each student, and
print.
9)
The last Session:
a.
Have students fill out Class Survey
in the first 15 minutes of class.
b.
Remind the students that they will no
longer be able to use the computers free of charge after the last class and
suggest that they purchase pre-paid computer-usage cards (see display on wall
for an example).
c.
Review important concepts from the
course.
d.
Give Final Exam (lamented
copies are in the File Cabinet)
e.
Hand-out
Certificates
Teacher
responsibilities:
- If the teacher has any
suggestions for lesson plan revisions, tell Paul.
- Get to know the Filing
System and contents of Cash Box (where the Cards are kept) so you can find
needed materials for the class.
- If you are unable to teach a
class you must find a replacement or have a make-up class.
- Do not be late to class.
- There is no free printing
for this class.
- Be sure you fully understand
the lesson before you give it.
- Take your time teaching the
lessons.
- Help students review the
material already covered. The first quarter of each class (except the first,
of course) should be spent reviewing material covered in previous classes.
- Remind the students that
paying customers are priority over them if they want to practice during
open-lab when all computers are full.
Other Notes:
- Microsoft Publisher
occasionally has an error, which freezes the program. Make sure you know how
to use the Ctrl+Alt+Del Task Manager to “End Task” when this happens.
- The
Class Outline was produced to be a teacher’s manual, a reference for students
during the class, and a study guide for students outside of class. It is not
meant to be a step-by-step guide substituting a teacher’s instructions. It is
in a condensed format to save on costs, which allows the WDYHCC to distribute
a complimentary copy to students upon registration.
