Brotherhood
Are you brotherhood??? Have you been in OA for 10 months? If you aren't brotherhood, but have been in OA for more than ten months, it is time that you consider becoming brotherhood. When you joined our Order, you made a commitment to both the Chapter and to your troop. Brotherhood is a way to confirm this commitment that you made. As an honor scouter, we ask that you get your brotherhood. The scoutmaster relies on his scouts in OA to serve as role models for the younger scouts. By becoming a brotherhood member, you show these scouts and your troop that you are dedicated to our Order. Visit TahosaLodge.org to get the check list and guide towards becoming an arrowman.

Your hard work and dedication got you to OA, now it is time to seal your membership in our lodge, and complete your obligation to your lodge. To become a brotherhood member: you must do the following:

1. Memorize:

  • The Obligation (found on the back of you membership card),
  • The OA Song,
  • The Admonition.
  • The Sign of Ordeal Membership
  • Arrow Handclasp
  • 10 Induction principles
  • Customs and traditions of OA
  • The meaning of OA symbols
  • What WWW stands for in OA

2. Provide a letter, addressed to the Lodge Secretary, that explains what the obligation means to you, and your specific plans of service. Some ideas of service in the past have been being an Elangomat, or becoming the Service Chairman and promoting Service in OA.

3. Serve your unit. Remain active within the scouting program of your unit for at least a period of ten months. Strive to fulfill the Obligation by continuing and expanding your service in your unit and community.

Once you complete your membership, you are given the opportunity to show the rest of Tahosa Lodge, and all other members of OA who come to the Tahosa ring, by making a brotherhood log. For five dollars, you decorate it, and help decorate PV. Now, where am I going to put this huge thing and find time to work on it one might say. Well, it just so happens that our chapter has one way to solve this. During our meetings, we will have the tools needed to work on these fence uprights. Once you have completed them, we will deliver them for you to the location, where they will be put into place, for the rest of Tahosa Lodge to see.

Our goal for this year is to attain a 30% brotherhood Conversion rate. We almost reached that goal last year. You can help make this happen by becoming a brotherhood member with at the First Cony Party (May 10-12, @ Peaceful Valley) or at Fall Fellowship, Camp Rap, or even at two weeks of Summer Camp at PV. For those of you who are brotherhood you can help us reach our goal by assisting those in your troop who aren't Brotherhood, become brotherhood.
