Making You Safe
What is your head worth?

I see guys wearing really old helmets or you hear somebody say, "I picked up my helmet at Aunt Millie's garage sale for 10 bucks." Is your head worth $10? Most motorcycle helmet manufactures recommend that motorcycle riders replace their helmet about every 2 to 3 years.  Why you ask? They say the sun and time will breakdown the material in a helmet and it can longer stand the impact that it could when it was new.  A very old helmet may give you the security of having a helmet, but it may not protect your head in a really hard crash.

Enduro Rules require only that driver wear a helmet. Colorado National Speedway rules for there regular Saturday Night Series require that all drivers wear a Snell-95 or newer helmet.
Snell is a safety rating for Motorcycle and Auto Racing Helments. For Enduro Racing the rules specifiy a helmet with a minimum Snell rating of 85 (Snell 85, 90, 95, 2000).

New motorcycle helmets (Snell M-95) start a about $129 and up. A new Simpson or Bell Racing helment (Snell SA-95/SA-2000) start about $260 and up.

The other side of the coin is that you may pull your racecar at a speed faster on I-25 than you'll ever race it. And you don't wear a helmet on I-25 (Maybe, we should?). You may never get into a bad crash during an Enduro Race. But, I ask the question again. "What is your head worth?" Remember, you've got to go to work Monday morning.
