Making the Car Safe for You

Racing Seat

Enduro Rules do not require a racing seat. Why would you want a racing seat? One reason, is to protect you during a crash. A racing seat, in combination with racing seat belts, will hold you in place in the event of an accident. It provides support in the middle of your body and does not allow you to move around.

Another reason is that a stock bench seat or bucket seat my not stand the impact of a hard hit and collapse. Allowing your body to be thrown forward into the steering wheel or backward possible causing a whiplash or some other type of head or neck injury.

Another reason that is more important in other racing classes than in Enduro Racing, is weight. A racing seat is much lighter and reduces weight in your racecar than a stock seat.

One last reason, you can get the seat located to where you are most comfortable. Some drivers perfer to be low in their cars. While like myself, I perfer to sit a little higher.

A basic racing seat costs about $100 with a cover. There are more expensive seats, that are made for higher speed racing and are built a little stronger. A seat is a driver preference. You want to be comfortable while you race.

The rules say, if you use a racing seat, alumiumun, metal, or fiberglass seats are acceptable. If you run a fiberglass seat, I would recommend some type of metal reinforment in the back side of the seat. Fiberglass seat can break during a hard impact and may injure the driver.

If you purchase a used seat make sure  that it is in good condition. No cracks or broken welds.

This is one of those safety items that you need, if your going to be serious about your racing. Remember, you've got to go to work on Monday.
