Sunday: Teen Curling (6:30 PM to 8:30 PM) Nov 5th

Teens, from all high schools and senior elementary grades are invited to register and begin playing on Sunday Nov. 5th (or at any time) for regular Sunday evening curling which will run from 6:30PM to 8:30 PM. Cost is $64.20 for the curling year. This fee also enables you to curl in adult draws on a space available basis.

First time curler?

All new curlers are welcome. The initial Sunday evenings you will be matched up with a coach or peer mentor. There will be lots of support. The club is maintained through the fees of approximately 190 adult curlers & their volunteer time. As a club we want to encourage bantam/junior curling. Curling is a sport were youth can succeed quickly. It also has a tremendous social aspect. Meet and compete with curlers your own age from other areas. It's a game for life.

Equipment?

  1. 1) You will need a curling "push"broom. The club has a number of brooms available that you can borrow.
Why a broom? Sweeping creates friction and heat on the ice surface. The heat causes a slight melting of the ice making it more slippery, which allows the rock to go further and straighter. Surprisingly, two good sweepers can make the curling rock travel up to 20+ feet further. Sweeping also takes dirt & stuff off of the ice so that it won't effect the moving rock.
  2. You will need a clean pair of shoes. If you do not have curling shoes, bring a clean pair of running shoes.
  3. You will need a "slider." This is a piece of Teflon held onto the sole of your running shoe by a large elastic band that fits round the heel. If you do not have a slider, the club has special "Teflon tape" to put onto the bottom of your running shoe; your sliding foot.
Why a slider? When you first push or deliver the rock on the ice your foot with slider on is in contact with the ice. It enables you to slide easily on the ice as you focus on the direction or the line that you want your rock to travel.
