Please Take Note

1. Celebrían was born to Galadriel and Celeborn.

There is no precise reference to her birth, in the works, but it probably took place in the Second Age.

2. Galadriel longed for the sea and moved westward. She took Celebrían with her to Imladris, to join Celeborn, and there they remained. That was when Celebrían and Elrond Peredhil first met, though they would not wed for several centuries.

"It was then that Elrond first saw Celebrían, and loved her, though he said nothing of it." [UT]

3. Galadriel, Celeborn and Celebrían eventually left Imladris to Belfalas, living in the lands between Ethir Anduin and the Mouth of the Gwathló.

4. [III 109] Celebrían was wedded to Elrond Peredhil, and bore him twin sons – Elladan and Elrohir [III 130] – and one daughter, Arwen [III 241]. Being descended from one of the Peredhel, their three children were to be given the choice of the Half-even: to be counted among the Mortal, or to sail West.

5. Galadriel and Celeborn once more moved to Imladris, where they dwelt for several years.

6. Galadriel passed the jewel Elessar on to Celebrían and she, in turn, passed it on to Arwen. And it was then passed on to Aragorn, also known as Estel, who would rise to the Throne of Gondor as King Elessar.

"She lifted from her lap a great stone of a clear green, set in a silver brooch that was wrought in the likeness of an eagle with outspread wings; and as she held it up the gem flashed like the sun shining through the leaves of spring."  [FotR]

"Radiant nonetheless was the Elessar of Celebrimbor." [UT]

7. [III 2509] When travelling from Imladris to Lothlórien, Celebrían and her escort were attacked by Orcs in the Redhorn Pass. She was recued by her sons, who took her to Imladris, to Elrond - and through his powers, he healed her woounds. But not her heart.

"She was seized and carried off. She was pursued and rescued by Elladan and Elrohir, but not before she had suffered torment and had received a poisoned wound." [Ap]

Please Note: Some suggest that Celebrían was raped by the Orcs. The word used by Tolkien to describe her fate at the hands of the Orcs is "torment" - so the interpretation is more or less left up to the reader.

8. [III, 2510] Celebrían "lost all delight in Middle-earth" and finally decided to travel to the West, to the Sea, never to return to Middle-earth.

"Elladan and Elrohir, were out upon errantry: for they rode often far afield with the Rangers of the North, forgetting never their mother's torment in the dens of the orcs." [FotR]
