WHY BOOK IN ADVANCE
Airlines and trains, especially in the peak travel times of April – mid June and then November and December may need reservation from your country itself.
There are many travel agencies that do this for travellers from foreign countries. You can pick the tickets when you arrive.
Quite logically you would choose a travel agency in the city that you land and collect them.
Each agency has its own method of collecting the fare involved. Many would bill your credit card, some would allow you to pick up the ticket at arrival, others may ask you to mail a cheque.

INTERNET BOOKING FOR TRAIN TICKETS
When in India you can now book a train ticket online and have it couriered to you within a maximum of forty eight hours. Thus if you are chilling out at the beach in Kovalam, you need not hassle a travel agent.

Log in and book your ticket and pay with your credit card. The train ticket will be sent to you via courier anywhere in India within a maximum of 48 hours. If you wish to use a travel agent , they charge between Rs 25 to Rs 50 per ticket.
AIRLINES AND INTERNET
The airline websites offer you their latest deals and availability. However, one cannot book plane tickets via the Internet. One has to use a travel agent to do the same.
You can see the flights out of different cities and the timings. The fare is available.
