Many travellers would like to do India on a bike.
The Royal Enfield 350 cc is very popular. A classic over time this is the best bet to travel all over the country. It is easily available in the country and the website of the company is www.royalenfield.com
The price of a used bike varies obviously with condition. A new 350cc bike costs Rs 45,000 (? ) . The price of a ten year used bike ( older models) would be about 12 to 15,000 rupees. A three year bike would cost perhaps Rs 30,000.
PRECAUTIONS WHILE BUYING
Take it for a test drive.
Have a mechanic check it out and pay a fee – usually Rs 100.
Haggle on the price, pay cash and take a signed receipt with all the details ( *print this form… can anyone write this out*) of the engine number and chassis number and registraiotn number written on it.
PROCEDURE TO REGISTER IT
Take the signature of the seller on the transfer form( ask him for it) and go to the RTO in the city ( Road Transport Authority). Take the registration book with you. Pay the fee and submit the form.
They should return it the same day/ in three days (?) ….Do not use a tout – offer the man a bribe yourself ,if you must bribe for same day delivery.
INSURANCE
Pay the insurance for one year – take comprehensive insurance. It should not cost more than Rs 400 (?)
WHEN DRIVING
When driving make sure you carry the basic tools ,a spare set of copies of the registration papers and insurance papers. Keep the originals in your bag.
