Where to fly The most common way to travel to Asturias from abroad is naturally flying. Generally you would then fly to Madrid (airport code MAD) and from there to Asturias - either with a domestic flight, and then to the airport Asturias/Oviedo/El Ranón (OVD) - or by bus from the southern parts of Madrid (the Mendez Álvaro station). If the people at the travel agency say that Asturias doesn't have any airport, just insist and give them the code. Of course you can fly to Barcelona (BCN) instead and take a plane from there.
Probably the best way to book a ticket is on the Internet. Search for "Cheap flights" (or something similar), and you will find several alternatives. Flying from Germany you can have a look at Iberia , which has some good offers for the moment (January 2004), but Swiss is a very good alternative if you are flying from the southern parts of Germany, they have many flights from Zurich. And as always - the sooner, the better. We recommend booking the domestic flight separately - it's
often cheaper. You can fly with Iberia or Spanair, Iberia is mostly cheaper. For the moment (January) a ticket MAD-OVD
with a return ticket costs around 60 EUR per person, but it varies a lot
due to day or time of the day. A tip - register as an Iberia Plus member
(it's for free) and the prices of the flights are displayed when you look
for a suitable flight. The buses work excellent in Spain and it is comfortable as
well as economical. ALSA has buses to Asturias
(Oviedo/Mieres/Gijón etc - ask the bride couple what would be best for you) for
25 EUR one-way, 47 EUR return ticket from Madrid. They also operate
from other destinations. You can book on the Internet
and there is information in English. To travel by train is also a possibility, but it's often
quite more expensive than the buses and not so much quicker, so the bus is
normally a better option. The train company is RENFE,
and they have information in English as well. We are happy to help you if you have any questions - just
send us an e-mail (mogranstrom@yahoo.es
or josejuanbravo@hotmail.com).
Charter flights or regular? There are some charter companies flying to Spain from Germany,
have a look to see if there are some that adapt to your wishes: Renting a car We don't know yet exactly which possibilities there are
to rent a car. Have a look at this page in the couple of weeks, when we expect
to have more information.
For driving to Asturias from Madrid take the N-360 towards Galicien (Galicia - A Coruña). In León change to A-6, "Autopista del Huerna" until you get to Gijón. The trip takes around five hours. Hotel We don't know much about hotels in Asturias, but we
will make an agreement at a hotel for guests coming from other parts than
Asturias. It will be economical, cheap but clean, since you don't want to
stay at the hotel the whole time anyway. We have unfortunately no idea how
much it could cost yet. If you want to stay at the hotel where the party will
take place (Begoña Park), that's of
course possible as well, but it's a bit more expensive than what we had thought
for the most people. The currency of Spain is euro nowadays,
remember to change before your trip if you come from a non-euro country or be
sure to bring your VISA card (or similar). Have a nice trip!! |
