Season Four

4x01 HERRENVOLK

The alien bounty hunter pursues Jeremiah Smith and Mulder, as the Pair travel to a farm where flowers are grown to nurture the deadly bees and the workers are all clones of young children, including Samantha Mulder. X is unceremoniously killed, but leaves Mulder a tip, written in his own blood, of where to turn for help.


4x02 HOME

Forget the Addamses and the Munsters! They can't hold a candle to the Peocock family in this immensely disturbing tale. When a child's body is found on the Peacocks' property, Mulder and Scully are forced to pay a visit to a dilapidated home inhabited by grotesquely deformed recluses. It's hard to hell which is more frightening: The episode's animalistic brutality or the eerie Johnny Mathis soundtrack.


4x03 TELIKO

When several African-American men go missing, and one turns up completely drained of pigment, Mulder and Scully are pitted against an African immigrant whose repast of choice is human skin pigment.


4x04 UNRUHE

House painter Gerry Schnauz abducts and lobotomizes women in an attempt to ease their spiritual unrest. Mulder and Scully discover a trail of strange photographs that lead them to Schnauz, who determines that Scully, too, needs to be released from her internal torment.


4x05 THE FIELD WHERE I DIED

Mulder and Scully join a task force invasion of a compound where illegal firearms my be stashed. Driven by some sort of intense déjà vu, Mulder finds the hiding place of a doomsday-spouting bigamist and his cultist followers a moment before an intended group suicide. As the task force searches for the concealed weapons, Mulder explores the previous resting places of his soul.


4x06 SANGUINARIUM

A doctor at a successful plastic surgery clinic loses control and brutally murders a patient. Mulder suspects spirit possessions. Scully suspects worse evils - vanity, greed and drugs. When more surgical mishaps ensue, evidence points to a nurse, who is actually a practicing witch.


4x07 MUSINGS OF A CIGARETTE SMOKING MAN

Lone Gunman Frohike reveals what he believes is the Cancer Man's sordid history as learned through one of his sources. CSM has apparently been a major player in most of the conspiracies of the last 50 years, including the assassinations of JFK and Martin Luther King Jr., the alien crash landing at Roswell and the Buffalo Bills' Super Bowl losing streak. But all he really wants is to be a writer.


4x08 TUNGUSKA

As Scully refuses to testify to the whereabouts of the missing Agent Mulder, the events of the preceding 10 days unfold. Krycek, returning after a long absence, is held hostage in Skinner's apartment before being whisked halfway around the world by Mulder in search of the deadly black oil. The two men are captured and subjected to bizarre experiments conducted in secret by the Russian government.


4x09 TERMA

Mulder escapes from the prison and, unlike Krycek, manages to keep his limbs in tact. He joins Scully in DC, where the agents attempt to convince their superiors about high-level complicity in a dangerous cover-up. Meanwhile, a Russian man attempts to sabotage the U.S. government's efforts to develop a vaccine for the "black cancer."


4x10 PAPER HEARTS

The impetus behind Mulder's search for the truth, his quest to find out what happened to his sister, is turned on its head in "Paper Hearts." Serial killer John Lee Roche claims it was he, not aliens who abducted Samantha. Mulder's memory of the alien abduction may have been created subconsciously as a way to suppress the more painful truth about what happened.


4x11 EL MUNDO GIRA

A mysterious yellow rain brings a dangerous, fungus-producing enzyme to Earth, killing a girl and a goat, and infecting a boy. The local populace fears that the Latin American mythological "El Chupacabra" goat-sucker has come to California.


4x12 LEONARD BETTS

Ambulance driver Leonard Betts might just have the most repulsive appetite in the cadre of X-Files heavies. But he doesn't just consume cancer, he is cancer. Not only that, he has some pretty handy abilities, including regenerating parts of his anatomy, or even his entire body.


4x13 NEVER AGAIN

When his wife and children leave him, down-and-out Ed Jerse decides to get a tattoo, but not just any tattoo. It's one that speaks to him in Jodie Foster's voice. With Mulder away on assignment, Scully encounters Jerse and finds herself in a romantic interlude that will end unhappily ever after.


4x14 MEMENTO MORI

Since her abduction, Scully has developed an inoperable form of cancer that has already taken the lives of dozen other alleged UFO abductees. As Mulder sets out to find a cure for her disease, Scully undergoes radical treatment. Skinner apparently makes a deal with the Cigarette-Smoking Man in exchange for his help with Scully's condition.


4x15 KADDISH

When a neo-Nazi turns up dead, rumors fly that a Hasidic Jew has returned from the dead to avenge his own murder. When the bodies of more young Nazis are discovered, Mulder tries to determine whether he and Scully are chasing a mythological Jewish avenger known as the "golem" or the bereaved family members of the murdered man.


4x16 UNREQUITED

Former prisoner of war Nathaniel Teager seeks revenge on the military higher-ups who left him and his comrades for dead in Vietnam. Teager begins to appear, and disappear, at crime scenes, making Skinner and his faithful agents realize that they're going to have to do some crafty planning to drop the net on the right man.


4x17 TEMPUS FUGIT

Eccentric abductee Max Fenig, first introduced way back in Season One, returns in the first segment of an epic two parter. Mulder and Scully, on the scene to investigate a downed airplane, find Fenig's body near the crash site. When the government wages a misinformation campaign to blur the suspicious facts surrounding the crash, it's up to Mulder to uncover the truth.


4x18 MAX

Mulder and Scully continue to search for what really happened on Flight 549. The answer they believe, will be revealed by locating the mysterious object Fenig carried with him on the fatal flight. As Mulder movies closer to explaining the incident, he realizes that the truth may never be revealed or, at least, believed.


4x19 SYNCHRONY

They've covered werewolves, vampires, alien abductions, mind-controlling substances, shapeshifters, cults and demons, but "Synchrony" proved there is a genre The X-Files creators hadn't yet explored - time travel. A raving old man approaches two MIT scientists insisting that one of them is about to die, and moments later, his prophecy comes true. The old may then begins to use his amazing foresight to take lives not save them, putting the freeze on his victims.


4x20 SMALL POTATOES

Several women in a small town give birth to babies with tails. Mulder is open to the possibility of alien involvement, suggested when one of the women claims the father of her child is from outer space. The name of the exterrestrial casanova? None other than intergalactic hero Luke Skywalker. The real culprit is downtrodden loser Eddie Van Blundht, who has the extraordinary ability to morph into anyone's likeness.


4x21 ZERO SUM

Skinner is called to task on his deal with the Cigarette-Smoking Man. His job- to cover up evidence of the deadly bees by any means necessary, including impersonating Agent Mulder. Sensing something is wrong, Mulder beings to investigate the inexplicable behavior of his supervisor. Meanwhile, Scully's condition worsens.


4x22 ELEGY

When several woman are murdered, the evidence points to Harold Spuller, a mentally ill man employed at a bowling ally nearby the crime scenes. As Scully begins collecting evidence against the man, she experiences a haunting vision and opts to leave the case to her partner, who is determined to find the source of the vision.


4x23 DEMONS

Mulder wakes up in a strange motel room, drenched in blood with no memory of the last 48 hours, only to discover he's become the prime suspect in a double homicide. Haunted by flashbacks from his childhood, the agent desperately looks to clear his name by recovering memories of the preceding two days and years gone by.


4x24 GETHSEMANE

All hell breaks loose in the fourth season finale. Mulder, convinced he has finally found evidence of extraterrestrial existence deep within the arctic ice, learns he and his partner are the victims of an elaborate hoax perpetrated to disguise an even more sinister government conspiracy. An ailing Scully begins to lose faith in her work, and Mulder grows increasingly despondent. By the episode's conclusion, Scully tells an FBI panel that Agent Fox Mulder is dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
