Education
In an amazing new world, of course, education is vital to survival. Every day I study all the forms, colors, sounds, and textures I can find. By eight weeks I had decided that polka dots are the most intriguing of all forms, that red is the most beautiful of colors, and that the most pleasant music comes from Mozart, Beethoven, the Evita and Little Mermaid soundtracks, and The Byrds. It was only at thirteen weeks that I really started to appreciate the value of textures as I began to touch and grab at things. Thus I cannot yet report to you which are my preferred textures.

I recently experienced the texture of grass, but at the time I didn't really pay much attention. I'd like to go back to where we found the grass now and try it again.

I do spend a lot of time just thinking, of course. I must decide how I will communicate to Mommy that my leg itches or I feel like I need to sneeze or I'd really like to turn around to look out the window at the pigeons.

I must also devote a lot of effort to concentration as I try to make my foot push the bar that runs across the front of my chair, for example.

During my second month here, after watching Mommy and Daddy and everybody else do it, I learned how to laugh. It felt a little strange, and it didn't sound like Mommy's or Daddy's. I realize I still have some progress to make!

Smiling, however, is easy these days. The world and the people here are all so good to me, I feel like smiling most of the time! My smile has greatly improved even since 11 weeks; I'll soon have the proof here to show you my master smile.

On Palm Sunday, 11 weeks after my landing, Mommy and Daddy took me to the front of the church where they promised to give me a Christian education. They say they'll teach me about an even happier and more beautiful world that I can journey to someday, if I want, after I'm finished with this one. During the service, the minister said I was dedicated to God! It made me so happy, I just couldn't stop smiling at her! She said to me, right there in front of the whole church, "You think that's wonderful, don't you?"

And I did.
