Simply A Woman
I am not wealthy
Or breathtakingly lovely
Not a Rhodes scholar
with a brilliant wit
for all to see
I am not so young
nor can I woo you
with a sweet innocence
of long golden tresses
and eyes of blue
Not a slim wee lass
not a fairy princess
nor a sweet young thing
with charming accent
or a damnsel in distress
I can't quote Socrates
or write a treatise
Nor dance all night
without getting breathless
or hurting my knees
I can't sing like an angel
can't carry a tune
can't dazzle or delight
or even charm you
like a bride in June
I'm not a dream
or someone's fantasy
Not the love of their life
can't unlock a lonely heart
as a cherished key
I'm an average sort
common as the girl next door
who muddles through life
always making mistakes
that I am sorry for
I'm a loving daughter
a funny teasing old auntie
the children's favorite
a soft-hearted friend
for those with eyes to see
I'm a bit too short
and a bit too curvey
growing into middle age
with a soft quiet grace
and silent dignity
I'm fair of face
if you like this sort
with long silky soft hair
and a whimsical humor
mostly a good sport
I'm a lonely lady
with a heart so true
I'm faithful and caring
sensual, soft, cuddly
and loving too
I'm simply a woman
maybe a bit child too
seeking my one true love
in life's endless journey
can it be, is it.....you?
I'll Never Know
i'll never know the feeling
of holding you in a mother's arms
won't see your first small smile
or melt at your sweet charms
won't ever hear you whisper mama
won't get to touch your wispy hair
or see your first tentative steps
or tuck you in with your teddybear
won't know what its like to love you
or feel you grow inside near my heart
won't nurture you or guide you
won't watch you grow into an adult
i'll never know the sweet delight
or the joy a new mother feels
and I'll miss you even more
throughout the long and lonely years
they say time heals all wounds
and gives you a brand new start
but nothing can ever take the place
of tiny footsteps in a mother's heart
Where is the Love
dreams are lost and hope is gone
friendship withered with the dawn
where is moonlight, where is song
where is love that made me strong
and tell me please what power is this
made me lose myself in your sweet kiss
that stole my heart and seared my soul
and left me here, much less then whole
and last I ask, where is the love
that I've been always dreaming of
what was my mistake, my awful crime
that left me alone for all this time

brilliant sun, quiet moon
she moves, a studied grace
a brilliance
as if a million
burning suns were
captured in her spirit
all dazzled by her
glib tongue
and winning ways
her flirtatious style
a cutting wit
men lie at her feet
begging her favors
never seeing
the emptyness
behind her eyes
behind her
shadowed by the brilliance
lost in quiet darkness
touched by a misty moon
another waits...
subtle grace
quiet inner beauty
loving soft heart
giving kindness
a gentle dance
unseen, unknown
softly moonlit
silently weaving dreams
of some day
and eyes that can see
