heroes -- david bowie
I will be king
And you, you will be queen
Though nothing will drive them away
We can beat them, just for one day
We can be Heroes, just for one day
And you, you can be mean
And I, I'll drink all the time
'Cause we're lovers, and that is a fact
Yes we're lovers, and that is that
Though nothing, will keep us together
We could steal time, just for one day
We can be Heroes, for ever and ever
What d'you say?
I wish you could swim
Like the dolphins, like dolphins can swim
Though nothing, nothing will keep us together
We can beat them, for ever and ever
Oh we can be Heroes, just for one day
I will be king
And you, you will be queen
Though nothing will drive them away
We can be Heroes, just for one day
We can be us, just for one day
I can remember
Standing, by the wall
And the guns, shot above our heads
And we kissed, as though nothing could fall
And the shame, was on the other side
Oh we can beat them, for ever and ever
Then we could be Heroes, just for one day
We can be Heroes
We can be Heroes
We can be Heroes
Just for one day
We can be Heroes
We're nothing, and nothing will help us
Maybe we're lying, then you better not stay
But we could be safer, just for one day

this song is on the 'randoms' tape that angela gave me yesterday and it has really grabbed me. it's so sad. bwah.
hmm? what a randoms' tape is? oh. it's something that got started before i left sweden sort of by accident. i've grown real fond of it.
it all started when my cousin had all these mp3's on his computer
and i decided that i wanted some of them. hence he filled one side of a tape with the songs of my choice.
it wasn't really a greatest hits collection or anything like that because the songs were chosen simply on a 'i want that and that' random basis. the collection turned out rather eclectic, but in an interesting way.
i spent the next day with maria, and i introduced the half-finished tape to her. i then suggested that she try and fill the b-side on her own following the only guideline, which is you are not to put any great deal of thought into the song selection at all and put whatever popped into her head on it. the result was a tape with the following tracklist:
side a: (my cousin's side)
--------
bliss - tori amos
bliss - tori amos
praise you - fatboy slim
over the hills - gary moore
streets of philadelphia - bruce springsteen
die mauer - ebba grön
girls - beastie boys
braveheart - unknown (weird euro-dance song based on the movie)
take on
me - a-ha
basket case - green day
dancing in the dark - bruce springsteen
bobby brown - frank zappa
---------------------------
side b: (maria's side)
--------
pornopolka - hedningarna
tora! tora! tora! - depeche mode
shot in the dark - ozzy osbourne
polo - the sugarcubes
the shadowchant (demo) - kari rueslåtten
listen to the flower people - spinal tap
i saw your mommy - suicidal tendencies
persistent and fleeting - 3rd and the mortal
vedergällningen (live) - garmarna
nuns have no fun - mercyful fate
sweet leaf - black sabbath
well, ecclectic as it may seem, i love the tape. it's awesome, to put it in a nerd way. half the songs make me laugh, a few make me gush, and another few make me cringe, but nicely.
i told some friends about this tape and the concept seemed to intrigue them, so, well.. angela decided to take on the challenge and made me her own random tape which i was given yesterday.
this tape was made in a truly random fashion - she actually used dice to pick the cds, and then just picked her favourite song off of whatever cd was selected.
i have figured out or been told a few of the songs, though - there's some happy rhodes, some kristin hersh, some bauhaus, some lords of the ???? (forgot their name :/) church, charlotte church, david bowie, sheila chandra (i think?) and a batallion of songs i've never heard before that really intrigue me.
anyways. that's a 'random'. feel free to try it out with a friend. you'd be surprised at the new things you discover that you might have never willingly chosen to listen to before. :)
