My Spring Break

The Tedious retelling You all Dreaded.

Thursday, march 11

Well, I knew Angela was going to call early, so I set out to wake up a bit earlier than the day before, only to get a phone call at 9.30 from... Charlotte. It felt so weird to have to _turn down_ hanging out with a person, because I already had other plans. It just.. doesn't happen a lot to me. We agreed to do something the next day instead, and that was that. Around 10 something, Angela did call, and soon enough picked me up, and I transformed into Jennie the Baby Sitter.

It was so much fuuuuun, and heheh, Angela is a mighty nice employer. *smile* We went grocery shopping (I got portobello mushrooms [hooked], and 3 boxes with pre packaged crackers and cheese. Plenty cheap compared to how much they charge for them at the vending machine at school. I also got a bunch of bell peppers, and olive oil. Aaah. Ever since I discovered the joys of roasted vegetables, things have been so yummie.), and then home.

I'm surprised at how well it went - it was my first experience baby sitting a child that wasn't a family member, and well.. it simply isn't something I have done much regardless, so I was really afraid that I'd screw something up. "Angela, um, something happened..." Yet, things went well. Just as she said, he turned out to be pretty good at finding entertaining things to do himself, and I just got to hang around and make sure things were okay. We tumbled around outdoors, he stomped dry leaves, I got him drumming on things ["Angela, is it okay if I turn your son into a drummer? I think it will be okay as long as you don't let him see any poodle rock drummers." -"Sure!"], and play peek-a-boo (Yes I sang devo along with it).

Once indoors, Angela put on Tori and Raspberry Swirl, and we all danced around. Hehehe, it got cuter when Angela left the room, and Garrett had me repeat the song, but I was tired so I sat on the floor, and he began to swirl around and around and around me until he fell over in a little exhausted pile. ARGH ADORABLE!

Eventually it was lunch time, and we left him eating and watching Tellietubbies while we had some peanutbutter/jelly sand whiches and chips. Angela brought me the first Sandman comic, and I read it while she took Garrett to nap. SHhhh. Shhh. As he fell asleep, Angela started to pull out video tapes, and soon we were watching all sorts of odd really old Kate Bush footage (she was so CUTE!), and we ended the session by watching "The Line, The Cross and The Curve"... Someone had given Miranda Richardson hideous eye brows, but it was pretty nifty :)

As Garrett woke up I got to look in photo albums, and Angela played me all sorts of neat music, from Sheila Chandra to Jane Siberry, to Danielle Dachs(sp?).. it was all around fun. Before she took me home in the evening, we went to the park, and Garrett forced us both to get on the swings and swing along side him. It was really wonderful, but something went whacky, and I had to get off as I got motion sickness. Pathetic.

All and all, a very good day. Yes. :))

It's strange, though. Here I've done all I can to fill up my days with classes and actual work, so I wouldn't feel so dumb for not having people to really hang out with, only to end up feeling poo because it means I now have very limited time to spend with these new friends that I want to see a lot more of. Bah. Ah well. Perhaps next semester :)
