Our New Mission

WellPetUSA moved to Tennessee on July 1, 2000. As this move occurred so did some changes in our mission and the types of services we will offer.

Before the move.........

June 2000
June was a very busy month as WellPetUSA, Inc. closed its operations in Texas. There were a variety of reasons for this decision, but there was one primary reason - lack of funding for our core program of pet rescue and adoption. As we tried to take care of as many pets as we could we spent thousands of dollars on medical care, housing and supplies and we were not receiving enough donations to help off-set some of these costs. Sadly, the decision by our board of directors was to close our pet rescue and adoption program in Texas. That decision was effective June 15, 2000.

On a more positive note, some of our former volunteers have decided to work with a local veterinary hospital and their pet orphanage (Eastlake Veterinary Hospital). These volunteers have agreed to work with Eastlake Veterinary Hospital to maintain a small off-site adoption program in an effort to find loving and permanent homes for the pets in their orphanage. We are very thankful to Dr.'s Fling, Nygaard and Johnson and their staff for their support of our efforts in pet rescue and adoption and we will miss them and our volunteers greatly.

During the move........

July 2000
During July, we moved our organization to Memphis, Tennessee. We worked with our board members to draft a new mission statement (which will be published to the web site sometime in late September). We will also began revising our business plan, goals and objectives to reflect the changes we will make in the next few months and years.

After the move.........

August, September &  October 2000
During the months of August, September and October, we will begin restructuring our organization to reflect the changes decided by our board of directors. Some of the changes will include re-focusing our efforts to offer more education about pets in the family and workplace - the PEAT Program -
Pet Education, Awareness and Training. For instance, the first area we will focus on are the roles pets play in our lives (what they bring to us and what we bring to them). The second area will be to focus on the importance of taking care of your pet from a medical standpoint (the advantages of spaying and neutering, vaccinations and other items). The third area will be to focus on the importance of training your pet so that you have a healthy and happy addition to your family.

One other item that will happen in September & October is the implementation of a direct mail campaign to help us raise money to do two very specific things:

First, to help us establish operating capital to fund our new PEAT program. This new core program will be the primary way we educate the public about pets in the family and workplace.

Secondly, to help us raise money to off-set some of the costs we incurred with our pet rescue and adoption program. We hope that our current WellPetUSA family and new members that come on aboard will support us in our efforts to raise money!

Finally, these items will continue while we are restructuring our organization:

We will continue to publish Meow Bow Wow, our on-line newsletter.

We will continue to recruit volunteers to assist us with on-line related items (working on the web site, assisting us with the publication of our newsletter) and we will temporarily act as a network and referral service (on-line) to those who are interested in adopting a pet and/or have a pet that needs to be rescued or released by offering suggestions on whom to contact.

Warmest regards,
Amber and Luis Pedraja
