Carlyn’s
love of horses began at a very tender age with one of her first
lead-line rides on her grandfathers pony, a father’s passion for
horses (Terry Lengwenus) and a brief birthday visit to the world
renowned Spruce Meadows. This all eventually translated into her
taking private lessons and showing competitively by the age of
12 in 1998. She was also a member of the Canadian Pony Club and
successfully passed her ‘C’ level on her first attempt. She was
very successful with her first pony, Dusty Prince, with whom she
consistently won championships in the Pony Hunters (Medium),
Basic & Hunt Seat Equitation, Low Jumpers, and Training level
Dressage. She began a 6 year journey as working student at the
age of 13, during which she gained invaluable experience and
working knowledge of the training and development of
green and
difficult horses. These skills have enabled her to create
gentle-minded and accepting horses that are receptive to
harmonizing with their riders. She has also developed a great
talent for
teaching riders how to better understand and help their horses.
Carlyn remained competitive during her working student years,
showing catch-rides owned by the stable as well as those of
clients. She was successful, winning championships in a
widespread of divisions at recognized shows: Pony Hunters
(Med/Large), Children’s Hunters, Baby Green Hunters, Pre Green
Hunters, Maiden Horse Hunters & Child/Adult Hunters. Equitation
was a strong point as was shown by her consistent wins. Carlyn
won nearly every medal and equitation class entered, including
those on catch rides. Her biggest aspiration was to qualify and
compete at the CET Medal finals in Toronto. Unfortunately, a
year of bad luck struck, which involved the passing of the only
two horses she had available to compete with in the medals, and
did not allow her to pursue this dream.
Today, Carlyn operates out of her car, traveling around central
and southern Alberta, to each of her clients. She spends a small
portion of the year judging local hunter/jumper shows and is
also an instructor and examiner for several groups of the
Canadian Pony Club organization (since 2004). She has also been
with the Adult Riding Cooperative since 2004, teaching adult
riders in basic
dressage & jumping, and manages a growing clientele of her own,
teach both privately and at clinics. She provides judging
services to local hunter/jumper shows.
Carlyn is also currently pursuing
her second year of 2 in her Business Administration Diploma with
a major in accounting. Afterwards, she intends to go on and
complete an applied degree in Accounting & IT with a
designation specialization as a CGA.Contact: (403) 352 4005 or clengwenus@yahoo.ca |
