Early in the morning of July 5, we entered the waters of Cross Sound,
the inlet to Glacier Bay.
It was here that we spotted our first whales. Occasionally we were
treated to a couple of waves of a fin, but mostly we saw only splashes
in the quiet water (see below). The picture above shows some of the many
passengers that came out on the decks to watch.
Camille and Joe are on the far left.
These pictures are about as spectacular (in my humble opinion) as
any that I have seen elsewhere of glacial ice crashing into the sea. This
is particularly true of the bottom picture where a HUGE slab of ice came
tumbling down. You see it here just as it hit the water.
