John Wingo first appears in the Amelia County, Virginia records in 1746. John died in 1755 and left a will naming three sons and three daughters.
By the time John died probably all six of his children had lived or were living in Amelia County. Amelia County records show that a William Wingo was listed with county insolvents and as a runaway in 1745. He probably moved or returned to King William County Virginia as later records for that county and New Kent County show a William Wingo living there and prospering. The other children remained in Amelia County.
