Prof. dies
Funeral services were held Monday for Dr. E. W. E. Schear, 90, 107 W. Park St., who died last Friday after a long illness.
DR. SCHEAR was a Professor Emeritus at Otterbein College and was the head of the Science Dept. for 39 years.
He was a 50-year member of American Association for the Advancement of Science, and was a fellow of the Academy of Science.
HE WAS awarded the Distinguished Service award by Otterbein in 1970.
He was a member of the Church of the Master, United Methodist, and served in many offices of the church, several times being a delegate to general conferences.
Active in Masonic activities, Dr. Schear was a member of Blendon Lodge F&AM Horeb Chapter, past president of SAR Zabud Council, past patron of Mizpah Chapter, OES, Mt. Vernon Knights Templar, Scottish Rite, Aladdin Shrine and Past Watchman of Shepherds Mt. Olive White Shrine.
DR. SCHEAR is survived by his wife, Marian B., of Columbus, son, Col. Evan W. Schear, now stationed in Germany; granddaughter, Mrs. Herbert Anderson, of England; great granddaughters, Victoria Sue Anderson and Christina Lynn Anderson; and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, friends were asked to contribute to the Building of the Church of the Master or to the Scholarship Fund at Otterbein College.
Services were conducted by the Rev. Paul Stuckey. Burial was in the Otterbein Mausoleum under the direction of Hill Funeral Home.
