Lenna Moss Johnson
Lenna Almeda Moss, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Moss, was born June 14, 1861, in Athens County, the second of a family of seven children. Always of a loving, considerate, genial and home loving character, she early surrounded herself by hosts of friends of whom she asked little but gave much.
And these same characteristics followed her through life, exerting a wholesome, constructive influence that in later years was to become a factor in the moulding of new lives, the making of new friends.
When Lenna was 15 years of age her parents moved to Delaware Co. This community has been her home ever since.
At the age of 23 she was married to Carey Whitsel Johnson who has always appreciated the rich companionship, kind sympathy and faithful nature of his loving mate. To this union five children were born, four of whom survive. And were able to quickly record as a mother and as an understanding wife, we certainly could draw from these facts the basic qualities of homelife, the kind loving devotion of motherhood and an unshaken faith in human nature that rewarded her richly in later years. That vein of faith, hope and charity was reflected in the rearing of a happy family and the ardent love of the children, the worship of a husband and the respect of an entire community.
Perhaps the uncanny influence of her life lay in her unobstrusive manner, her charitable understanding of others and her unshaken faith in Christ.
Suddenly when the close companionship of life had ripened into happy contentment - yet with two years over her allotted three score years and ten - she slipped away, uncomplaining, ready and with that same brave spirit that faced and conquered so many great problems.
There survives her the husband, Carey Whitsel Johnson; two daughters Goldie Maynard of Lansdowne, Pa., and Alyce Burkholder of West Lafayette, Ind.; two sons, Dr. Harry Johnson of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Clarence Johnson of Lumberville Pa.; three sisters, Mrs. Mollie Taylor, Mrs. G. A. Brehm and Mrs. Eva Wagoner, all of Westerville; two granddaughters, Elizabeth Maynard Greirter and Jeanne Ann Burkholder, and a great grandchild, George Kirk Greiner, Jr.
