After experiencing a fall while painting the roof of a garage, Rev. James A. White, age 74, died five days later in Grant Hospital, where he was removed on account of a crushed hip. Rev. White, a retired minister of the United Brethren Church in Christ, had held pastorates in Columbus, Junction City, East Linden and Minerva as well as in Indiana.
Rev. J. Neely Boyer was in charge of the services which were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, in the Westerville United Brethren church. He was assisted by Rev. W. E. Snyder of Dayton, editor of the Religious Telescope, and Rev. D. S. Mills, radio singer, sang "When He Rings the Golden Bells", a favorite of Rev. White's which he himself sang on various occasions. Miss Frances Harris played the organ.
Pall bearers were Ray Cheek, E. D. Moody, George Patterson, Prof. J. F. Smith, John Jones and John Collier. Burial was in Otterbein Mausoleum by Fichner.
Rev. White is survived by his wife and five sons, R. K. White of Detroit; D. H. White of Indianapolis; L. L. White of Hamilton, Bermuda, the only son who was unable to attend the services; R. J. White of Sidney and James A. White, Jr., of Columbus; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
For a number of years after he retired from the active ministry, he served as the local agent for the Acme Laundry and for the past several years he has been doing home painting. He and Mrs. White and family moved to Westerville 25 years ago.
