Obituary
Mrs. Mary A. McLeod, daughter of John C. and Elizabeth Nutt, was born at Maxtown, March 18, 1849. She was united in marriage to Emery McLeod on the 14th day of April, 1871. Of this union four children were born, one son and three daughters. The son preceded her to the better world eight years ago.
She was a loving mother, a kind companion and was greatly attached to her family.
The sudden and tragic death of her only son came to her as a thunderbolt out of a clear sky, and caused sadness and sorrow to her heart from which she hardly ever fully recovered.
She gave her heart to God and her hand to the church early in life, belonging most of the time to the Methodist church, being a member at the time of her death of the M.E. church of her home town of Westerville. In her modest way she was always willing and ready to lend a helping hand to the church and the needy as best she could.
She departed this life September 9, 1917, at the age of sixty-eight years, five months and twenty-one days. She leaves to mourn their loss a husband, three daughters, Miss Allie McLeod and Mrs. L. E. Whitehead of Westerville and Mrs. Fred Ulrey of Galena; one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Chloe McLeod; seven grandchildren, one sister, three brothers numerous other relatives and friends.
