Sixty-One Years
Rev. J. Neely Boyer was assisted by Dr. T. J. Sanders in conducting the funeral services for Mrs. Sallie Markley, age 88, widow of J. W. Markley, which were held at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, at the residence, 34 East College Avenue, where she died Thursday evening after a serious illness of five days.
She and her husband moved to Westerville 61 years ago, where Mr. Markley, who died 12 years ago, spent a successful business career of almost a half century, most of which time he managed a grocery and dry goods store in the Markley block now occupied by Wilson's and Huhn's stores.
Mrs. Markley had the honor of holding the longest continuous membership of any of the members of the Westerville United Brethren church. She was a charter member of Mizpah Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, the New Century Club and the Church Work Society of the United Brethren church.
Surviving are her two daughters, Mrs. Ada M. Lutz and Mrs. Josephine Wilson and two grandsons, James and Joseph Wilson of Westerville; two sisters, Mrs. G. M. Mathews and Mrs. Martha Mathews of Dayton. Mrs. G. W. Mathews, who will celebrate her ninety-first birthday in April, attended the funeral services Saturday, but the other sister was unable to be here.
Burial was in the Otterbein Cemetery Mausoleum by K. R. Fichner.
