where we had a wonderful walk to a viewpoint - took lots of photographs, then on to Cancale to see the oyster beds and to have a coffee and a non-fattening French pastry. On the way then to Mont St Michel when the heavens opened with thunder, lightening and torrential rain. We tried to see if there was enough blue in the sky to make a sailor a pair of trousers but the sailor would have had to have been very small! We were undaunted and, umbrellas at the ready, we set off to climb to the top of the Mont to visit the beautiful Abbey. Firstly, though, we popped into one of the many restaurants and had a delicious lunch. When we came out of the restaurant, the rain had stopped and the sun winked at us through the fluffy clouds. After our visit we made our way home to St Malo stopping, on the way, to see the lovely town of Dol de Bretagne and its magnificent cathedral. We managed, somehow, to dodge the ever threatening rain. Back to the Hotel for a bath or shower before another super meal, lots of wine, and some fun and games with an American party of young ladies who were also staying at the hotel and then to bed (very late). Tuesday came and we shopped till we dropped! Firstly, dodging the rain, to the local market which sold everything from clothes to fish, vegetables, fruit and flowers at the little port of St Servan, then onto the huge 'Continent' superstore with its shopping mall of mouth watering outlets. Members indulged their taste buds by purchasing the local cheeses, garlic and bottles and bottles of delicious wine. In between the two shopping sprees we did have time to visit the

charming village of St Suliac for a walk around the headland and lunch in a restaurant overlooking the small harbour filled with little yachts and dinghies. Back to the Hotel for an early dinner and, revived, hopped into our coach with the ever helpful Chas to visit the walled city of St Malo where many of us, including Maureen with her electric buggy, walked around the top of the city walls finishing up with a hot chocolate in one of the street cafes. Wednesday came, all too soon, and we said our goodbyes to Jane and Jacques and their wonderful French hospitality and got onto the coach for the drive to Roscoff visiting Dinan on the River Rance with its mediaeval houses. A super opportunity for last minute shopping, photo calls and a final coffee and French pastry. We arrived at Roscoff in good time and enjoyed another calm crossing, this time to Plymouth, the sun shone and we basked on the decks, some of us sipping our gin and tonics. We arrived home, tired but happy, at around midnight. We all agreed - this was the life for us. The Yeovil Group WI will never be the same again. We had enjoyed super company, marvelous leaders in Elizabeth and Joyce, a very comfy friendly Hotel, delicious food, beautiful places to see and the time went all too quickly. We had lots and lots of laughs - one of our group can tell you exactly where to find the best loos and one member got locked in one and had to be rescued! "When are we going again" was the cry when we said our goodbyes to all our old and new friends! Watch this space!! Liz Batten - Press Officer
