Never: - put your real name - use the email address you use for "normal correspondence" with people from whom you wish to keep your identity from -- everyone can browse the personal pages and who knows? (create a web based email account using geocities or hotmail or netforward or whatever) in your personal - put other personal information in your personal. you only give personal details later after you have several messages exchanged with the other party and only if you are convinced that the person you're corresponding with is within your normal criteria. - don't give your home address before you actually meet the person. If you decide to meet, choose a neutral place (not your home or office or school or any place near them). Be advised that: - the machine from where you sent the message to the other party can be found from the email header (even if you use web based emails) - depending on the size of your cache, all the links you visited in the last few days can be seen by someone else with access to your PC, always remember to clear the cache after visiting places you don't want other people to find out. Always: - cross check the information you receive from the other party - try to do a net search on the name, and see what you can find out there - take your time, remember you don't want to scare off the other party and you have to make sure that the other party is really what she says she is.
