chapter thirteen
I rushed out of the room after him and tried to explain.
"Kian, it’s not what you think." I explained. "You see, he…"
He whirled around and said, "Oh, and I suppose he just happened to bend down and touch your face with his lips? Come on, do you expect me to believe that? For your information, I’m not dumb,"
"But he…" I tried to explain again.
"Good thing I came to the party or I wouldn’t have found out that you…"
"What? Find out what?" I was beginning to get angry.
"That you’re cheating on me, that’s what!"
"Me? Cheating on you? What about you? You have fans surrounding you all day and you get kissed by them all day long. If anyone should be cheating on someone, it should be you!" I screamed.
"If that’s what you think, fine. Have it your way!" he shouted back. And with that, I stormed off, tears flowing down my cheeks.
I ran all the way home and shut myself in the room. How could Kian accuse me of cheating on him? He didn’t even get the facts correct. Did I make the wrong choice? As these thoughts were flying around my head, the phone rang. I hesitated, wondering whether or not to pick it up. I decided not to in case it was Kian. I was still furious with him for accusing me of cheating on him.. My answering machine picked up the phone and it turned out to be Angel.
"Lind, pick up the phone. Hello? Hey pick up the phone right now!"
"Hello?"
"Lind? Are you OK? I saw what happened. Did you have a fight with Kian? A few minutes after you ran out, he came back in and drink himself silly. What happened?"
"He..he accused me of cheating on him," and I started sobbing.
"Hey, don’t cry, if the person was you, you would have mistaken it too. I mean, it shows that he loves you, that’s why he was jealous."
"Stop speaking up for him. I don’t want to hear his name for as long as I live."
"But Lind,"
"Angel, if you’re my friend, stop speaking up for him. And hey, I’m sorry for spoiling your birthday mood. But at least Shane is there for you. You’d better go back. It’s your party after all. Don’t worry about me, I’m fine."
"All right then, if you need me, you know what to do,"
"Ok, bye," Feeling downcast, I went downstairs for some ice cream. As I ate the ice cream, memories of me and Kian eating ice cream together invaded my mind and I tried to get it off my mind but I couldn’t. Uncontrollably, I started sobbing again.
chapter fourteen
Meanwhile back at the party…
"Kian, how could you accuse her of cheating on you when you haven’t even got the facts straight?!" Shane asked.
"Hey man, it was pretty clear, ain’t it? That guy kissed her!" he answered and went on drinking.
Shane grabbed the cup away from him and said, "You’ve already had enough drink already. No, I’m not going to give you any more beer. Don’t you think you should apologise to her?"
"What?! Are you crazy?! Are you my friend or her friend? Why are you siding with her?" Kian asked and started mumbling.
"You’re drunk, man. There’s no point in me telling you what to do now. I’d better send you home."
After telling Angel, he sent Kian home. All the way home, Kian mumbled to himself about how stupid he was, about how he should have known that she would cheat on him whenever she had the chance to. Shane looked at his mate and shook his head. He was thinking about Kian a few years ago when a girl cheated on him. He hadn’t got as upset as he was this time. He knew that Kian loved Lindsay a lot, he’d often told him so, which was why he had gotten so angry when he saw another guy kissing her. But luckily, neither of then had suggested a breakup, which would then be very hard to get back together. After tucking Kian in his bed, he called Angel and told her that he would be coming over.
Back at Angel’s house when the party was over…
"Do you think there’s any way we can get them back together?" Angel asked.
"Well, there should be no problem. I can tell that they still love each other a lot." Shane answered. "Let’s not talk about them for a while,"
"Then what are we gonna talk about?"
"You, of course. It’s your birthday today and I’ve got a present for you." He took a small package out of his pocket and gave it to Angel. She opened it in anticipation and found a bracelet inside.
"Oh my goodness! It’s…beautiful! Thank you." And she leaned over to give Shane a kiss. Just then, the front door opened and in walked Angel’s parents.
"Hey honey, had a nice party?’ her mom asked.
"Yeah, it was great. And thanks for being out of the way," Angel added playfully.
"Hey, Angel, I’d better go now to check on Kian. I’ll see you tomorrow, OK?
Bye." And with that, he went home.
chapter fifteen
The next morning, Shane found Kian downstairs watching television. When he got downstairs, he realised that there was no sound coming out of the television and that the television wasn’t even switched on. As he walked into the kitchen to get himself a cup of water, he met Mark, who was cooking breakfast.
"He’s been sitting there like that ever since I came down," Mark shrugged.
"Kian, what are you doing?" Shane asked, concerned.
"What? Oh, I’m watching the television." He answered, distracted.
"It’s not even on,"
"Oh, I didn’t realise…I’m going out to buy some breakfast. You guys want some?"
"Kian, Mark is in the kitchen cooking! What’s the matter with you? Get a grip! Do you remember that we have to open for Boyzone two days later? How are we going to put up a good show if you keep moping around?" Shane said, exasperated.
Kian reacted to this by plopping down on the sofa. He hid his face in his hands. Shane sat down beside him and tried to comfort him.
"Hey, it’s OK. Just apologise to her and everything will be fine,"
"What?! I have to apologise to her?! Why can’t she apologise? She was at wrong, not me!" Kian retaliated.
"C’mon, we’ve been through this before. We all know it was a misunderstanding and do you expect a girl to apologise to you? Besides, you did accuse her, you know,"
"I’m going out," Kian said and went out of the house. Shane got up to follow him but was stopped by Mark.
"Leave him to himself for a while. He’s sensible enough to do the right thing," Mark said. "I hope," he added silently.
"Lind, are you OK?" Angel asked.
"Yeah, I’m OK," I lied. In reality, I was feeling terrible. It was my first fight with Kian and I couldn’t believe that he was being such a jerk. But I still missed him a lot. I just want to make up and give him a big hug but I wasn’t about to give way. He was in the wrong, not me, so there’s no way I’m going to give way and apologise to him.
"Umm, Lind? What would you do if you see Kian right now?"
"Right now? I’ll kick his ass and call him a big fat jerk!" I answered.
"Well, there he is. I’ll leave you two alone," and she left before I could say anything.
"Hi…how are you?" he asked.
"Fine, thank you," I replied. For two minutes, we just stood there silently.
"Well, aren’t you going to apologise?" I asked. | |
