Origins of Wexford Hurling Club

Wexford Hurling Club was founded in 2002 by some native Wexford people residing in Boston. This club would not have been possible if the Wexford clubs and businesses back home hadn't contributed so generously.

We received a lot of donations from clubs and businesses in Wexford, this kept us afloat while we got organised

The club had a successful year. We qualified for the Boston Junior final and got beaten by four points - a major accomplishment in the first year.

We would like to thank all the Wexford clubs and businesses that contributed to our club last year. We would also like to thank the following sponsors in the Boston area:

  • The Castlebar, Brighton
  • Pat Murphy, of Model County Plastering
  • Liam Byrne
  • Phil Callaghan

How we did last year

We reached the final of the Northeast Junior Hurling Championship and were beaten by three points by Tipperary. In the tournament we defeated Galway, Limerick & Fr. Toms, while losing to Cork and Tipperary. We qualified second in the group to reach the final.

In the pre-season Fox Cup Tournament, we defeated Limerick in the first round and lost to Tipperary senior team in the second round, by two points.

Two of our players, Sean Keogh (midfield) & Richard Haverty (wingforward) received Junior Hurling All-Stars and were the first members of the club to receive such awards.

Interested in Joining?

Players do not have to be from Wexford to line out with the club. Hopefully in the season to come, players that are planning to come to Boston to work for the summer will join the Wexford club, rather than other teams in the area.

We are hoping to have enough players for two teams for the next season. Anybody wishing to get in touch with the clubs should ring Liam Byrne at 617-254-6130 or Brian Fitzharris at 617 524 3774. We will also be keeping our phone numbers up to date with Wexford County Board and Croke Park. Alternatively, you can e-mail us at wexfordhurlingboston@hotmail.com

The club has provided a home for Wexford G.A.A. followers in Boston and we hope it will continue over the years
