By Karli Fisher and Alice Houston

Plot: This story is a "what if?", in this case, "What if 'Will & Grace' was set in the 1940s in a murder myster?" . So all the characters are still the same personality wise, but now they have different jobs, don't know each other as well, etc. Will is a detective who is hired by Grace to solve a case. The cast is listed below and what character they're playing.

SCENE V:

(THE OFFICERS ARE STILL EXAMINING JOSH'S BODY AND A CROWD OF PEOPLE ARE STANDING AROUND, BEING INTERVIEWED BY OTHER OFFICERS. AN OFFICER WALKS IN FROM THE EXIT ALONG WITH BEN AND GRACE.)

BEN: "This is an outrage, I have an important meeting to get to!"

OFFICER: "I'm sorry sir, but until we find out who the killer is, no one gets out of this building."

GRACE (TO BEN): "Well, that's great, Ben, we can work out the kinks in our relationship."

BEN (TO THE OFFICER): "Would it help if I said I was the killer?"

OFFICER: "Are you?"

BEN: "No."

OFFICER: "Then no. Please have a seat at the bar sir, this could take a while."

GRACE: "Come on, Ben."

(BEN IS RELUCTANTLY DRAGGED OFF TO THE BAR BY GRACE. MEANWHILE, WILL IS STANDING OVER JOSH'S BODY, STARING DOWN AT IT.)

WILL: "Come on, wake up again, I need to know who killed you."

(WILL WAITS. JOSH REMAINS DEAD.)

WILL: "Damn."

(WILL WALKS AWAY AND HEADS OVER TO THE BAR WHERE JACK HAS JUST SERVED GRACE AND BEN THEIR DRINKS. JACK GIVES GRACE A WEIRD LOOK, THEN NOTICES WILL STARING AT HIM.)

JACK: "What'll it be?"

WILL: "Uh, nothing, thanks. You are aware that someone just died here, aren't you?"

JACK: "Yeah."

WILL: "And that doesn't bother you?"

JACK: "Nah, Josh couldn't really play the piano anyway. Besides, all these officers here means we get more drink orders, which means more money."

WILL (SUSPICIOUSLY): "Uh-hu. Well, would you mind if I asked you a few questions?"

JACK: "Depends what kind of questions."

WILL (TAKING OUT HIS PEN AND PAPER): "First off, was Josh well liked here? Did he have any enemies, or people that just didn't like him?"

JACK: "Well, no one really liked him, but not enough to kill him, if that's what you mean."

WILL: "Okay, next question: what's the deal with the lights? Why'd they go out?"

JACK: "Some clumsy maid accidentally dusted the power switch. Don't worry, her ass has been fired for that."

WILL (RAISING AN EYEBROW): "I thought you said it was a power outage."

JACK (FLUSTERED): "I did? When? Oh...well, I was just saying that to cover up for her mistake."

WILL (STILL SUSPICIOUS): "Sure. And you don't think it's any coincidence that the lights went off around the time Josh was murdered?"

JACK (MORE FLUSTERED): "I dunno, why you asking me? I didn't do it."

WILL: "I never said you did, Mr. Black. I can see this is making you nervous, though, so I'll change the subject. What kind of club is 'The Boys Club'?"

JACK: "Well, look around, what kind of a club do you think it is? It's a typical bar and dance club, like a million others in New York."

WILL: "And you co-own this bar with Karen Walker? What can you tell me about her?"

JACK: "She's the best damn singer in all the free world for one thing. She's the reason half these people come here. And she didn't kill Josh either, so don't go accusing her too."

WILL: "Mr. Black, I haven't mentioned that at all, yet you've denied it twice."

JACK (FLUSTERED): "Uh...well, uh, I guess I'm just more shaken up than I thought about this murder." (TWO OFFICERS APPROACH THE BAR.) "Oh, more customers, sorry detective, the rest of that interview will have to wait."

(JACK QUICKLY WALKS OVER TO THE OFFICERS AND TAKES THEIR ORDERS, THEN DISAPPEARS INTO THE BACK. WILL SITS AT THE BAR, LOOKING OVER HIS NOTES.)

WILL (VOICE-OVER): "The bartender was hiding something, I felt sure of it. Why would he repeatedly deny committing the murder? Was he really just spooked, or was it something else? I was going to keep my eye on him. In the meantime, I figured I'd better investigate the club some more, and talk to Jack's partner, Karen. I was determined to get to the bottom of this."
