Blaby Road Park

On-going improvements

Since the regeneration work on Blaby Road Park first began in 2001, there have been many major improvements, including a new skate park (said to be one of the best in the UK) new toddler and teenage areas (Teen area is designed to encourage body strengthening and fitness exercises) new pathways, cricket pitch and drainage system, lighting, kissing gates, dog waste bins and benches.

In response to complaints from parents and residents in 2001, concerning the rundown state of Blaby Road Park, Oadby & Wigston Borough Council started an on-going programme to regenerate the Park in order to make it the safe and enjoyable place it should be.

The Friends of Blaby Road park was re-formed in 2003, after the initial work had been carried out by O&WBC. The group consists mainly of  residents, parents and council members who continue to monitor the usage and safety aspects of the park. The Friends also hold an annual Sunday funday to help to encourage the community to make the most of the free open space they have available to them.

All proceeds from the funday's goes towards future improvements and activities for young people on the park.

The Friends are now working closely with Re:Active youth club and O&WBC, to draw up plans to extend the existing pavilion and provide a youth and community facility on the park.
