Vandalism is a crime. A comment the Friends frequently hear, is that the council should do more to improve South Wigston and Blaby Road Park. As you can see from these pages, O&WBC have made many attempts to improve Blaby Road Park, and have not given up despite the constant vandalism attacks. They have listened to the community and worked closely with the Friend's to try to make the park a safe and friendly place to visit, but in all fairness, the council can only do so much. If communities do not respect the improvements that are made in their area, then they will stop improving it and we will all lose out! -------------------------- No Respect! The Friends are currently looking at various ways to lesson the amount of vandalism attacks on the park, including improving lighting and the possibility of incorporating CCTV cameras into their cafe plans. The road to regeneration is not an easy one! Below are photos of some of the vandalism that has occurred on Blaby Road Park, since the regeneration work began in 2003. Fencing around the skate park was pulled down and damaged during construction in 2003 Vandalism attacks on the skate park became so frequent a security firm had to be called in to guard the site over night. Other incidents that are not pictured here include the slide in the new infant/junior area being burnt, and several litter bins and dog waste bins that have had to be replaced through arson. Below are the remains of a burnt out bench in 2005. Since then at least another 4 benches have been set alight and had to be removed Rail on the skate park was smashed out of the concrete and set alight in 2004. Junior Park also had the fencing pulled down and damaged during construction in 2003. Legal graffiti Graffiti artist Sam did a fantastic job when he stepped in and saved the day, as the pre-booked artist failed to show up to decorate the skate park in 2003. Blaby Road Park is Situated on Blaby Road, South Wigston, Leicester.
