(Lisa 7/22) - "...There's one thing though-Buffy doesn't love Xander! ... Buffy is allowed to love who ever she wants, and her choice is obviously clear-she wants, and she loves Angel... I realize that Angel has put her through a lot of pain, but all relationships are painful at one point or another. It's pretty clear to me that Buffy's love is strong enough to endure the pain brought on by Angel... "
(1)I've said this before. The fact that Xander's feelings (I hesitate to use 'love', because I myself can't tell for sure if I am in love, much less if someone else is. Anyone who thinks they can tell ,especially for a TV show, is being presumptuous) are unrequited makes me sympathize with him even more. Just because those feelings aren't mutual doesn't mean they go away. (2)A couple going through some rough times in a relationship is a little different than what Angel has put Buffy through. He has killed her friends. He has tormented her family and friends. These aren't fights over money or petty squabbles. She doesn't have to stop 'loving' Angel, but she should realize that it will never work and move on. What if you found out that your spouse, who you love, is a serial killer (note: exaggeration here)? I think it would be time for you to move on. |
(Janis 7/18) - "...even though Xander thinks he is in love with her it really only physical he just likees her looks..."
I've said this before. If Xander was only concerned with Buffy's looks, he would have accepted her 'present' in "Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered". In the episode "Nightmares", he was attracted to Buffy even while she was a vampire. I don't think that Xander is only concerned with Buffy looks. If he was only concerned with looks, he already has the most popular girl in school. Yet, he still pines for Buffy. |
(Jessica 7/21) - "I belive in fate and that all things hapen for a purpose son I think Buffy and Angel are ment to be together, I mean what would be the
point of Angel living for 200 years if he was'nt ment to be with Buffy."
Things to ponder: What about the other vampires who live for 200 years? Maybe Angel's fate was to live for 200 years and be killed by Buffy? |
(Please refer to Lilith's comments on Pro-Angel 7/17)
You make a number of good points and they actually make sense. I wish more people would follow your approach in this discussion. Although, towards the end you started to delve into 'The show would be boring w/o the tension' or whatever, which is not what I'm looking for. Anyway, I think we just have to agree to disagree. Your reasons for 2 people to get together are totally different than mine (which is what makes us 2 unique individuals). Correct me if I'm wrong, but you are basically saying that Buffy should end up with Angel because they have more in common and he can help her become a 'better/fuller' human being. He has more to 'offer' to Buffy, for lack of a better word, than Xander does. Well, to me, the reasons why people should get together is something intangible. You can't say 'this person has the same interest therefore I am attracted to him' or 'I'm attracted to him because he is this way/looks like this'. To me someone is just 'attracted' to someone. There's a spark that you can't explain what or why. In "Nightmares", Xander admits that he was still attracted to Buffy even though she turned into a vampire. It is from this viewpoint that makes me think Xander deserves a shot at Buffy as much as Angel. But most fans are pro-Angel despite what Angel/Angelus has done and in spite of what Xander has done. (I don't think that Xander ate the principal. He only ate the pig. I believe that he was locked in library when the pack was eating the principal.) I don't know if I've made myself clear, it's kind of hard to make a point when you're also trying to make it short. |
(Stacy 7/18) - (1)"looks to me like you're taking all this pretty personally... for one thing, i think some of your comments to people came off as pretty obnoxious..." (2)"can you say 'over identify much?'" (3)"... if you're just gonna shoot everyone down who disagrees with you than why do you have this page?" (4)"... you should've stuck with 'Keep Angel Dead'" (5)"... and you shouldn't say that everone who is pro-angel is focused on his looks... i happen to think xander is very good looking... but that's not the important thing..." (6)"buffy actually said that she's not interested in xander in that way... and like you said she obviously knows of his feelings for her and being buffy she would probably have acted already if she ever wanted something to happen with xander... if you're pitying him DON"T... he already has cordy and willow... and he got that whole valent! ine's episode..." (7)"and if you're gonna say stuff get your facts straight first... angel was not in love with another slayer" (1)I apologize if I offended or upset anyone. I wasn't trying to be obnoxious, I was probably venting or my sarcasm was lost in the written word. (2)Yes. (3)That's what a debate is. Someone makes a point, I make a counterpoint. They counter my point, etc., etc. I don't think I've shot everyone down. I've admitted that there were good points made by pro-Angel people, but there are also some lousy ones. (4)I would, except too many people pointed out that Angel wasn't 'dead'. Half of the responses by pro-Angel fans were 'ANGEL'S NOT DEAD, SO #$%*!". People were taking it too literally. I don't think I've hidden the fact that I'm pro-Xander. (5)I never said 'all', I said the 'majority'. I also said that on 6/15. Today, the numbers have dropped, but I'd still say the 'majority' of pro-Angel fans are focused on his physical aspects. They always seem to say at some point in their comments that Angel is cute/hot/etc. (6)I never said that I 'pity' him. I said that I sympathize with him. (7)I said 'didn't he mention?', then I followed that up with 'I am still debating whether or not Angel fell in love with another slayer...' depending on how I interpret Darla's comments. In fact this section is me doing what you are doing. Trying to get the 'facts'. I try to use correct information, but I'm only human. I'm no 'Angel'. :) (note:sarcasm) |
(Genna 7/15) - "...You remind us that he was a drunk before he was human and then that he was one of the most evil vampires ever. But when his soul was returned(or
whatever) he remembered all of the terrible things he did in his past. It changed
him. He has to live with these memories everyday and he feels horrible about
what he did..."
You missed my point. Angel(vampire w/ a soul) is not his 'normal' personality. Angel(vampire w/ a soul) is just Angelus with a curse. You take away the curse and you get Angelus. You take the vampire out of Angelus and you get the drunk womanizer. Granted I only had about 5 minutes to judge pre-vampire Angel. But I can only go by the facts. I'm not about to resort to conjecture. |
(Keri 7/15) - "...it (Angel&Buffy) is the classic doomed relationship.
Sort of like Romeo and Juliet, but not quite...." (Many Others) - Angel & Buffy's relationship is poetic/romantic/etc. Fine, I see your point. However, can't you also compare Xander's plight to other classics. The underdog who doesn't stand a chance. Cinderella after her prince. "The Great Gatsby", etc. Once Xander realized that Buffy was happy with Angel, he tried to move on. He hooked up with Cordelia and yet people flame him for that. I know some people think that Xander lied to Buffy out of pure jealousy. Isn't it possible that he just wanted to make it easier for Buffy. That he was protecting Buffy? If he had told Buffy, then she could have been distracted. She may not have fought as hard as Angelus was fighting her and she might have been killed by Angelus. |
(Huntress 7/15) - "...Xander should suffer for what he's done! I
mean how could he lie to her if he really cared about her, he's just
jealous cause Buffy loves Angel and not him....."
Xander should suffer because he lied to her? How about Angel/Angelus? He shouldn't suffer for killing Ms. Calendar? Ms Calendar, who was Giles' love interest. Giles who is Buffy's mentor and not to mention father figure? Angel/Angelus shouldn't suffer for killing at least one of Buffy's classmates? Or are you going to give me that it wasn't Angel it was Angelus reason? Well, it wasn't Xander who lied to Buffy it was his multiple personality Idiot Zed! |
(Holli 7/15) - "...Why on earth would you call this page die Angel die!!!???..."
It was just me being overzealous. I obviously want Xander to end up with Buffy and the only way, at that time, for that to happen was if Angel died. I figured this would also be a good attention-getter. It actually worked out too well. Quite of few people got caught up with the title. |
