Adventure 008, Part I
“But what about our superiors in Washington? And our agency? And what about Bionic?” Agent Andy asked Johnson.

“The Bureau is taking care of all paperwork and transfers. Our agency will be led to believe that we have all been transferred to the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Besides, our agency will be shut down now that the Chicago anarchist and most of our arch nemeses have been eliminated,” Johnson answered cooly as he walked down the hall of their apartment.

“What about Bionic and our team in general? Won’t we be too small?” Andy continued to ask.

“Agent Bionic will be reinstated into Team 13 upon his release from the mental hospital in July. Until then, we will receive a temporary member from the Bureau,” Johnson answered without hesitation. He was told little by the agents at the seminary, but he made certain to have some questions answered.

Frink silently contemplated something as he walked behind the two other agents. Without warning, he glanced up at Johnson and said, “That’s it! It’s the answer to the particle misplacement dilemma of the Hyperbolic Transfusion Chamber at MIT! It can’t be explained because it is supernatural.” With that revelation, Frink denial of the past few events seemed to fade away. Johnson simply continued walking.

As Mark reached his room, he turned and stated a quick set of updates. “We now have smaller shades, we now have additional suitcases to carry, we now have an RV, and we now study the occult. We will be receiving more information on a need-to-know basis. Until we obtain new instructions, I would like to return to my quarters.” He unlocked his apartment door and began to enter. Before doing so, he paused and said, “Agent Andy, buy a few more black suits. Learn to tie the Windsor. Agent Johnson signing off.” He closed his door on the other two agents.

Andy looked at Frink, who looked perfectly happy. Andy shook his head and walked upstairs to do a bit of Internet research.

That night, Agent Andy learned about many of the basics of urban legends and myths, so he was well-prepared for the instructional classes and basic training that followed.

Basic training was quite interesting for the other agents. The biggest challenge was, of course, learning to never be a skeptic. Although if Bionic were there, he might find that learning the rules were most difficult, specifically the rule about using violence only when necessary.

Other than that rule, there were four others which mainly dealt with keeping the secrets. They wouldn’t be too difficult to follow, agent Johnson thought. His team was very clean in their actions, and they never left anything for the media to find before now.

And aside from the unusual suspects of their cases, Johnson, Andy, and Frink were certain things would barely change at all.

The team completed basic training before long. Their headquarters was slightly revamped, and they were each given a set of standard Bureau equipment (paranormal evidence collection kits, GPS monitors, etc.). Since they had an apartment building and a downtown office, the team did not receive the standard Bureau 13 RV. It was no great loss; the thing wouldn’t have fit in the garage anyway.

While the agents were still studying Bureau 13 files, Johnson was contacted by Bureau 13 headquarters with an investigative mission.

Recently, an archaeologist had returned to Chicago from the Middle East with an interesting discovery. He was bringing his find to a presentation at Marquette University in Milwaukee this weekend. Team 13 was to find the archaeologist and identify his discovery. If necessary, they were to acquire the artifact from the professor “for his own safety.”

Agent Johnson thought it would be simple enough.

Revod’neb could feel his prison being moved from its ancient resting place. He felt the jolts and shakes of transport, and the sunlight that occasionally touched the phylactery.

If he had a face, he would have smiled. Some dupe had been foolish enough to take the Knives out of the protective wards of the monastery catacombs. Yes, Revod’neb thought. I can feel the power returning. The wards could no longer hold him back. Soon he would be freed. Soon the world would once again bow to tyranny and oppression.

Soon the world would bend over for him.
