Paulington had to warn the Mafia liaison that federal agents were on their way. Before he got halfway to the meeting room (the left-wing screening room), the vampire thought better of himself and ran to the back of the building with two thugs. He was almost to the emergency exit when he heard gunshots in the theater’s front. Paulington rushed through the doors with his cronies. The agents would be upon them soon. *** Luckily, Andy didn’t have to fire his grenade-hurling weapon. Johnson dispatched the gangster within a few shots, and neither agent was hit. The two ran down the right hallway looking for any sign of a vampire when the emergency alarm system (which was surprisingly still active) went off. The vampire must have run out through a rear door. The agents rushed into the nearest screening room and headed for the emergency exit. The door was still half-open. The vampire must have taken this way out. *** Lord Paulington ran though the night to his inner-city crypt. He tried to ignore the tempting homeless people as he rushed with his two lackeys to the nearby warehouse district. He didn’t have time to try and lose the agents in the side roads or alleys. Morning would soon arrive. He heard shouts behind him. Then he felt a bullet whisk past his face, singeing one of the hairs on his mole. The agents were right behind him. He needed to get to his lair, and fast. As he turned a street corner, an oncoming car ran right into him. Fortunately for him, he was agile enough to roll on top of the car’s hood and leap into the air. Also in his fortune, his jump landed him right on the other side of the inner-city graveyard fence. He sprinted into his mausoleum and began closing the heavy door, forgetting the two thugs. Just in time; the sun’s rays were peeking over the distant skyscrapers. Adventure Archive Home |
