Fan Quilt site

You have seen them in concert, read about other concerts, tracked them through tv and the internet; what is left? Well, I think Darren, Daniel, and the band deserve a "Thank You" card as big as this great world they have taken by storm. With that in mind, we have started a "Quilt campaign".

Here's the general idea...you (the fans) create individual squares expressing your gratitude, fandom, etc. for Savage Garden; adhering to a few guidlines. Your completed squares will be sent to me and my Mom, who will sew them together according to the pattern she has worked out. Once the squares are sewed together, a backing will be added, completing the quilt. We will take care of everything after you send your square to us. Below are the guidelines for the squares as well as a picture of the basic layout of a square and a few examples we have recieved. With that I give you the rules...

  1. If you are a fan and you live on Earth you can participate!

  2. The pattern for the square is as follows: The basic square is one foot by one foot (12" X 12"). You need to leave a two (2) inch border on each side, leaving an eight (8) inch square area that you will use as your canvas. Your design MUST fit within this eight inch square area! (The extra two inch border allows for any changes that we may need to make when joining the squares together). Here is a picture to help you visualize...

  3. Okay, now there are a few other basics. The material must be WHITE and NOT made of stretchy material; check out your local fabric or department store.

  4. Even though the material is white to begin with doesn't mean that it has to stay COMPLETELY white! We encourage sewing or paint or whatever; the squares are going to be joined together with black material, thus the request for white backgrounds - it helps with contrast.

  5. Explore your options; there's a lot you can use in decorating, look around your local craft store. Use iron-on patches, letters; fabric paints, embroidery, etc. There is special printer paper you can use to transfer pictures from the internet onto fabric; really get creative, do something unique.

  6. When you are finished with your square, email me at jlynnae@hotmail.com to let me know when it is SENT - include your full name and birthdate; all the names, email addresses, and birthdates will be included on a printout with the finished quilt. As for mailing, the square should fit in a normal envelope (if you can fold it and fit it in). If not, it doesn't cost much more than normal postage on a larger manila envelope. Here is the mailing address:

    The University of Tampa
    401 W. Kennedy Blvd.
    Box 491
    Tampa, FL
    33606-1490
    USA

I will send you an email when it is received.

  7. When the whole thing is completely finished I will take a picture of the quilt and put it on my webpage so everyone can see it. We intend to put the quilt directly into their hands at one of the upcoming US concerts later this summer. (There are ways!)

  8. Lastly, we have reset the deadline again! - this time we're not immediately setting another one...just SEND IN THOSE SQUARES ASAP!!! We need the quilt completed before the end of the US tour. (August 2000)

  9. Have fun with this...really put thought into it and let Savage Garden know how much we love them; as well as how much we are looking forward to the Affirmation World Tour. Good luck, we hope to hear from you soon!
