Faithe

Chapter 1-5

Intro

Summer 1999

I started to write this in November '98 so some things might be different than on the show and some other things I just didn't like so, I changed them.

Lucky and Liz have been officially going out since November '98 as on the show. Emily moved to Europe to model full time. The whole Tom/rape thing happened, but doesn't really play into this story. When Nikolas found out Stefan was his father, he moved out of Wyndemere and moved into the apartment across the hall from Lucky, above the motorcycle shop. Nikolas and Lucky have a tenuous brotherly relationship, that mostly consists of a lot of teasing and wisecracking, with a little helping and giving advice thrown in. Lucky has reconciled with both of his parents but still doesn't live at home. Nikolas has started reconciling with Laura and Stefan. Luke recently moved back in with Laura and the two of them have been rebuilding their marriage. Nikolas and Katherine never had an affair and Kat never knew about Nikolas' true parentage. The only ones who know, other than Nikolas, are Stefan, Laura, Luke, Lucky and Liz. Luke, Lucky, and Liz kept it a secret because Stefan, Laura, and Nikolas asked them to, but they were never really told why. The way the Cassadine family works will be changed but that will be explained as the story goes on. Sonny is back and running the organization. Jason still has some ties to the mob, but still runs the motorcycle shop. Let's face it, the Spencers have to have a mob friend or the world just wouldn't be right. New characters will be introduced and explained throughout the story (wouldn't want to give anything away :)).

Chapter 1

Outside Kelly's late afternoon

A girl sat at a table outside of Kelly's looking intently at a map and nervously playing with the silver cross that hung around her neck. Lucky and Nikolas were talking and walking towards the door of the diner, not really watching where they were going. The girl stood up from a table, thoughts buried in the map she was concentrating on. Nikolas bumped into the girl head on.

"I'm so sorry, are you All right?" Nik asked concerned and slightly embarrassed.

"I'm fine," says the girl quickly and slightly annoyed. She was tall, with nice figure, long dark brown hair, and deep, clear, green eyes.

"I really am sorry," Nik said still staring at the girl because he found her quite beautiful.

"Don't worry about it," she said obviously not taking any notice of Nik. She brushes past Nik and starts to walk away. Lucky laughs slightly and continues to walk into Kelly's

"I'm Nikolas Cassadine" Nik got in front of her and put out his hand to shake her's. He didn't want her to leave.

The girl looked at him startled, "Cassadine?" She says almost through her breath.

"Yes, that's correct. And your name is?" Nik noticed her uneasiness "Is there something wrong"

The mystery girl took a deep breath and said with a forced calm " Well, you'd probably know where he is. I need to find Luke Spencer." Nik looked at her with surprise, "I don't know where he is, but I can direct you to his son." Nik felt that this girl was hiding something.

The girl looked at Nik with complete distrust in her eyes "Where is he?" She said with a suspicious tone.

"Right in there" he said pointing to Kelly's. The girl went inside and Nik followed. He recognized the look in eyes; it was the same look Lucky had given him when they'd first met.

Inside

At the counter Lucky was recounting to Liz Nik's clumsy meeting with the mystery girl, and laughing slightly. He turned around when he heard the door open to see Nik and the girl entering and said, "So you finally won her over, eh Nikky?" Lucky noticed the serious and confused look on Nik's face and turned serious himself.

"Lucky, this girl seems to need to speak with your father" Nik said slowly

Lucky got up and walked towards the girl looking at her skeptically "Lucky Spencer?" she asked her voice matched Lucky's look.

Nik went to the counter and sat next to Liz.

"Yeah that's me," Lucky said slowly.

The girl took something out of her pocket. "My name is Faithe Reynolds. I was told to come to Port Charles and give this to Luke Spencer, or a member of his family, if I ever needed help." She handed the object in her hand to Lucky. It was a small gold plated dog; it looked like it came from a Monopoly board.

Lucky looked down at the object questioningly for a moment and then his eyes grew large with recognition and he looked up at Faithe.

"Come with me " and Lucky escorted her out of the diner completely forgetting about Liz and Nik sitting at the counter.

Lucky and Faithe were outside walking away from Kelly's. "I'll take you to my mother's house. You'll be safe there for now and she'll know how to get ahold of Luke."

Faithe nodded acceptingly.

"Are we hiding you or going after someone?"

"Hiding, right now." Faithe said wondering if she should trust this guy.

"OK" said Lucky and they continued to walk towards Laura's house.

Back inside Kelly's

Nik and Liz sat at the counter staring after the two who had just left. Liz had a worried and puzzled look on her face.

"Do you know what that was about?" Nik asked

"No" Liz said still slightly worried

"Well, she said she needed to find Luke so Laura might know what it was about. Do you want to go ask her?" Nik said. He was still and little uncomfortable around Laura but his curiosity was peeked.

"Yeah just give me 15 minutes to finish up here, then we'll head over." "Sure." Nik said as Liz went into the back.

Chapter 2

Lucky and Faithe didn't talk most of the way to Laura's.

"So, how much did your father tell you about that?" Faithe asked quietly pointing to the dog that Lucky still had in his hand.

"Not much, just that if someone ever showed me something like this I was to drop what I was doing and help anyway I could."

Faithe let out a sort of smirk "Yeah sounds like Luke. Just vague enough but still get the point across."

Lucky looked at her a little surprised "Sounds like you know him pretty well"

"I guess you could say that. " was all Faithe said as they walked up the porch of the Spencer house. Lucky opened the door without knocking.

"Mom?!" he shouted

"Lucky?!" Laura called coming out of the kitchen. "It's nice to see you."

Laura looked at Faithe for a moment, then put her hand out to her. "I'm Laura Spencer, Lucky's mom."

"I'm Faithe Reynolds" Faithe looked nervous.

"Reynolds?" Laura recognized the name but couldn't place it.

"She gave me this Mom" Lucky said handing her the little gold dog.

Laura immediately put the name and the dog together and remembered what Luke had told her. "What do you need honey, what happened?" Laura said very worried about the girl.

"My Father was murdered two nights ago, I saw it happen." Faithe looked down. Laura put an arm around her but Faithe immediately pulled her head up and said in a strong voice said "I'm fine."

Lucky's mind went into overdrive with everything Luke had taught him. "Did they see you, the murderer I mean. Did you see them?"

"I don't think so, and they were wearing ski masks."

"Were they looking for anything?" Lucky questioned again

"I don't know. After they shot my father I heard one of them say that he was dead. Then the other said 'Where's the girl' and I just got out of there as fast as I could."

"It's good that you did. You can stay here as long as you need to. How old are you honey?" Laura said

"18, but are you sure it's a good idea that I stay here. I mean, if they know anything about my father's past they'll know he had connections to Luke."

"You're right," Laura said looking to Lucky for ideas.

Lucky still didn't know exactly what was behind this but he decided there would be enough time for that later. "I have an idea, but it would mean bringing two other people in on this."

"Who?" Faithe said cautiously

"Well you met one of them."

"Not that Cassadine!?" Faithe said astonished

"I take it she met Nikolas" Laura said

Lucky nodded to Laura "Well actually yes, he can be helpful sometimes."

"You're a Spencer! How can you be friends with a Cassadine?!" Faithe asked in disbelief

"It's a long story" Lucky said scratching head "He's my brother." Lucky noticed that this didn't surprise her.

Just then the door opened, Lucky stood protectively in front of Faithe, but he relaxed when he saw who it was.

"Laura something strange..." Nik stopped when he saw Lucky and the mystery girl. Liz was right behind him.

"Speak of the devil! What took you guys so long to find us?" Lucky said with that Spencer grin on his face.

"Traffic." Nik answered quickly.

Lucky laughed a little at Nik's attempt at humor. Then turned back to Faithe, "Is this all right with you?" Lucky asked.

Faithe let out a sigh "I don't like it, but if you trust him?" she said looking at Lucky.

Lucky sighed heavily, closed his eyes, scratched his head and said defeatedly "I do."

He'd never wanted to actually admit that, especially in front of Elizabeth and Laura. He figured Nik already knew somehow. Liz and Laura exchanged a look.

"In that case" Lucky said turning to Nik and Liz, "Faithe Reynolds meet Elizabeth Webber, my girlfriend, and you know Nikolas" Liz smiled and shook Faithe's hand.

"Nice to meet you, call me Liz."

Faithe smiled genuinely and seemed to relax.

"So, you knew I'd find you?" Liz said turning to Lucky.

"Yeah, if I didn't I would have told you where I was going." Lucky said flashing that famous smile.

Liz smiled back thinking, 'when will that smile not make my knees go weak' "So, what's the story." Liz asked turning to everyone else.

"Well sit down there's a lot." Laura said guiding them to the couch.

Chapter 3

Laura had just finished telling Liz and Nik about Faithe's situation, because she was sure Faithe didn't want to tell it again.

"So where's Luke? He probably wants to hear this." Nik said trying to be helpful.

"He's in New York City, but he'll be back in the morning." Laura said quickly, obviously thankful that Luke was telling her of his comings and goings. Their marriage had come a long way in six months, she thought. "You can stay here until Luke gets back, it's only for one night I don't think there'll be any danger." Laura said to Faithe.

"Actually I had an idea about a safer place." Lucky said, "Since there's a possibility these people know her family's history, and might come here looking for her. We should hide her someplace where they would never think of looking for her."

"That's great Lucky, but where?" Nik said with a hint of sarcasm in his voice.

Lucky looked at him, a little annoyed, and said "Well Nikki, how do you feel about a roommate?"

"What!?" Nik and Faithe said in unison, but Faithe's voice was more of a yell.

"Now wait, just think about it," Lucky said quickly, "Since our fathers probably worked together, that means your father probably had some 'run-ins' with the Cassadines and hated them just as much as my father." Faithe nodded slowly, knowing Lucky had guessed the truth. She had been running from the Cassadines her whole life.

"In fact, we don't know for sure of Helena or one of the other Cassadines wasn't involved in this somehow." Lucky said and then turned to Nik hoping his words hadn't struck a nerve. "It's all right Lucky, I know what they're capable of." Nik said knowing exactly what Lucky was thinking.

Faithe knew the Cassadines had to be behind this but she decided to wait until Luke got there.

Liz looked at Faithe and said "Lucky maybe Faithe would be more comfortable at my house." Lucky opened his mouth to disagree, but Faithe cut him off. "Thank you Liz, I would be more comfortable there, but unfortunately Lucky's right, nobody would ever look for me anywhere near a Cassadine. But let it be known," She said pointing a finger at Lucky "that I don't like this idea, no matter how much it makes sense." Lucky smiled knowing he'd won.

Hey! Don't I get a say in this? It is My apartment!" Nik said feeling like decisions were being made without him.

"Well, she can't stay here or at my place cause they'll look for her there, and they won't look at your place, but I can still be close, and besides your apartment is bigger than mine." Lucky said

"Well, I guess it makes sense, okay fine." Nik said defetedly.

Now that that's settled." Laura said with a sigh, happy at seeing her boys working together. "Why don't you all come in the kitchen and get some lunch before you leave."

Faithe nodded, she was starving. She followed Laura into the kitchen with Nik behind her. Liz stopped Lucky as he started to follow.

"Why didn't you want Faithe staying at my house." She asked a little puzzled.

"Because if she's there then that puts you in danger, and I can't have that." Lucky said

She smiled at his protectiveness, but turning puzzled again she asked "But now isn't Nikolas in danger?"

Not as much cause I'm just across the hall." Lucky responded.

Liz nodded. Lucky put his hand behind her neck and pulled her into a soft kiss. When they pulled away they both smiled.

"Come on let's get some lunch." Liz said taking his hand pulling him into the kitchen.

Chapter 4

Later at Nikolas' apartment

Nik is making a bed on his couch when Faithe comes out of the bathroom wearing jeans, a gray tank top, with a black sweatshirt material jacket.

Her hair was wet from her shower.

"You can have the bed." Nik offered

"Don't go out of your way, I'll be fine on the couch." Faithe said determined not to be bought in but his manners. 'He is still a Cassadine, and can't be trusted.' She told herself.

"I insist, anyways Lucky would never let me live it down." Nik said determined to kill her with kindness.

"How chivalrous." Faithe said with an exasperated sigh.

"Well, Lucky and Liz should be here soon with the pizza." Nik said breaking the awkward silence.

Downstairs

Lucky and Liz were walking into the motorcycle shop and Liz was carrying the pizza.

" Hi Jason. How's it going?" Liz asked sweetly.

"Good, Liz how are you?"

"Good, Thanks."

"Hey Jason, I'll put the new price list on the web page tonight, K?" Lucky said motioning Liz to the stairs.

All right, remember to give me your hours tomorrow so I can pay you."

"Sure thing, c-ya."

"Later Lucky, bye Liz"

"Bye Jason." Liz said from just inside the stairwell. "You know what?" Liz said once they were walking up the stairs

"What?"

"I think Nikolas likes Faithe." Liz said in a playful voice.

"Yeah, I know," Lucky said letting out a sigh "He's got that glazed over thing goin' on with his face whenever he looks at her."

"That's a good thing right? That he likes her?"

" Yeah, but the thing is, he might end up getting hurt, I mean he has a better chance of getting Jason to dress up in a Halloween costume than he has of getting Faithe to trust him. From what my dad has told me, her family has just about as bad of a history with the Cassadines as mine does."

"But you got past it, you trust him, he's your brother now." Liz pointed out.

"That took three years and some extenuating circumstances, and I have a feeling that Nik doesn't want to wait that long." Lucky said with a slight smirk.

Liz chuckled at that and reached for the doorknob and said, " Let's not keep the 'lovebirds' waiting any longer."

Lucky laughed as he followed her into Nik's apartment.

"What are you two laughing about?" Nik said teasingly.

Liz starts to laugh harder at this and Lucky tries to hold back his laughter long enough to tease Nik.

"Now Nikki, if we told you it wouldn't funny anymore." Lucky mocked and flashed that devilish grin of his.

Nikolas rolled his eyes and growled slightly, but knows it was all in good fun, he has become used to Lucky's teasing, and decided to give him back some of his own. "Well, LUCAS, what's for dinner?" Nik responds with an innocent grin on his face.

Lucky shoots Nikolas a look that says 'Good one'. Liz laughs out loud at the look on Lucky's face, as she puts some pizza on a plate and takes it to Faithe sitting down on the bed facing her still laughing.

"What was that all about?" Faithe asked amused.

"Nikolas hates being called 'Nikki', the only one who can get away with it is his little sister LuLu, and Lucky hates being called Lucas just as much. He only gets his full name when he's in trouble." Liz explained in a hushed tone and a slight glint in her eye.

"What is his full name." Faithe asked with an evil, playful grin.

"Don't say it." Lucky warned coming up behind Liz.

"Say what?" Liz asked innocently tilting her head back to look up at him and smiled sweetly. Lucky chuckled and went to get a soda. Liz quickly leaned towards Faithe and whispered loudly "Lucas Lorenzo Spencer Jr." Nikolas laughed victoriously as he sat on the chair beside the bed. "I heard that!" Lucky called from the fridge as all four erupted in laughter.

A few hours later

The four teens are sitting on Nikolas' bed playing poker. Liz, knowing better than to play poker with Lucky for long, is just sitting watching the other three. Liz doesn't like to lose, even if they are only playing for M&M's. Nikolas had learned a long time ago not to play for money, with Lucky, so he always kept a bag of M&M's handy. The last time he played for money, Lucky bought himself a new laptop after the game. Nikolas was amazed tonight though, because Lucky wasn't winning, Faithe was.

"Read 'em and weep boys! Full H house, Aces and Lady's!" Faithe cried smugly as she laid down her cards, and began to scoop the M&M's in the center into her already humongous pile.

"Man!!" Lucky ran his hands through his hair frustratedly. He hadn't lost this big in a long time. Good thing they were only playing for M&M's.

"I'm done!" Nik said defeatedly and Liz laughed.

"Giving up Cassadine?" Faithe said mockingly.

"Score one for the girls!" Liz cries and high-fives Faithe.

"I haven't ever had this much fun!" Faithe said pleased with herself.

"Yeah, but you're not the one losing!" Lucky said obviously still in shock that he lost.

"This was great but I should get home, Gram worries." Liz said rolling her eyes.

"I'll walk you home." Lucky said getting up.

"You better, you don't have any more M&M's to lose!" Liz said tauntingly, while putting her jacket on and picking up her purse. Nik and Faithe both laughed.

"HAHA. Very funny." Lucky frowned putting his coat on. "Bye you two."

"Bye guys." Nik as Lucky shut the door behind him. He turned around to see Faithe putting her 'winnings' back in the bowl, and then started to put the cards away.

"You're really good at cards, where did you learn." Nik said looking at her thoughtfully. She was defenately beautiful and interesting, but how was he going to get her not to hate him.

"My dad and Luke." Faithe said quietly, "listen I'd love to chat, but I'm pretty tired so I'm just gonna go to bed." Faithe took her bag and went into the bathroom to change.

Nikolas let out an exasperated sigh after she shut the door. She had seemed so relaxed tonight then she just shut down when they were alone. Nik quickly got ready for bed and settled himself on the couch. He had on black silk pajama pants and a white T-shirt.

When Faithe came out of the bathroom she was wearing dark gray, flannel pajama pants and a black tank top. She climbed into bed and shut off the light on the nightstand.

"Good night Faithe."

"'Night Nikolas."

Outside the Hardy house

Liz and Lucky walked up to the porch holding hands. "I like Faithe, she's really funny. I'm glad we were able to get her mind off her troubles." Liz said as she turned to Lucky and put her arms around his neck. Lucky put his arms around her waist.

"Yeah, I can't believe she beat me." Lucky grumbled.

"She wiped the floor with you Lucky." Liz said matter-of-factly.

"I know" Lucky groaned.

Liz laughed, then turned more serious. "She seemed so sad sometimes"

"Elizabeth, her dad was just killed."

"I know, but it seems like it goes deeper than that. She seems so alone."

"She might not have told us everything, but I have a feeling she'll open up to Luke. I don't know how yet but she knows him. Anyway, she's not alone anymore. She has the whole Spencer clan looking out for her."

"Well, I know that's a good thing." Liz said with a suggestive smile.

"Oh yeah? And you know from personal experience?" Lucky said arching an eyebrow.

"Definitely" Liz whispered as she brought him to her for a passionate kiss. Lucky held her tightly and silently prayed to stay like that forever.

Chapter 5

The next morning-Spencer house

Luke and Laura were sitting on the couch 'making out' when the door bursts open.

"AHH, Jeez, can't you two grow up?!" Lucky groaned

"No, can't you knock?" Luke responded with a smile.

"No" Lucky said smiling

"Mornin' Liz"

"Good morning Luke"

"Nikolas" Luke said shortly and nodded his head.

"Luke" Nik said and nodded back

Faithe stepped into the house from behind Nikolas and Luke's face lit up like a Christmas tree.

"Skeekter?!" Luke quickly went to her, picked her up in a hug, and twirled her around, laughing while Faithe laughed with him.

"It's great to see you, what are you doing here? How's your dad..." Luke's sentence trailed off when he put her down and realized something was off

"Where's your dad?" Luke asked slowly with worry in his voice.

"You didn't tell him?" Lucky asked looking at his mom.

"Tell him what!" Luke demanded looking from Laura to lucky and back to Faithe.

"I haven't had a chance, he just got home ten minutes ago." Laura said in her defense all the while trying to put her hair back in place. Liz smiled.

Lucky rolled his eyes and then turned to his dad "Well Dad..."

"Luke Dad's dead." Faithe cut Lucky off in a rush.

Luke looked shocked "Oh Skeet..." Luke pulled Faithe into his arms and closed his eyes for fear he would cry.

Faithe relaxed when Luke hugged her and let a few tears escape her eyes onto the front of his shirt. It was the first time since her father died that had even let a tear fall. She quickly regained her composure and pulled away. Luke looked at her, worried and confused.

"Where's your mom Skeet?" Luke asked

Faithe looked at him with shock "Dad didn't tell you?" she asked slowly.

"What?" Luke asked more worried.

"Mom was killed four years ago, Luke." Faithe said slowly.

Luke took a step back and put a hand on his head trying to digest what he had just been told. "Four years ago? Why didn't Frank tell me? We kept in touch." Luke asked in disbelief and then sank down on the couch. Laura sat down next to him and put an arm around his shoulders, and he seemed to relax a bit.

"I don't know Luke. He said he'd tell you eventually. Dad hadn't been the same since she died. We didn't talk about it much." Faithe said with a sadness in her voice. Then she pulled herself back together. "Look, all I need is a place to hide out for a while until the heat dies down, then I'm outta here." Faithe said with a confidence she doesn't feel.

"No way!" Luke and Laura cried in unison. Luke looked at Laura and smiled at her support. He turned back to Faithe and stood. "You're my responsibility now, Skeeter."

"Luke, I'm 18 I can take care of myself!" Faithe shouted and turned to walk away.

"Francine Marie Reynolds! You listen and you listen good!" Luke yelled. Faithe turned around slowly and seemed shrunken at the use of her real name. Luke lowered his voice a little but kept the intensity, "Your father wanted me to take care of you if anything ever happened to him and I intend to honor his wishes. You got it?!"

Faithe nodded slowly.

"Francine Marie?" Lucky asked trying not to bust up laughing.

"Lucas Lorenzo?" Faithe retorted and gave Lucky a look that dared a challenge.

"So we call you Faithe?" Lucky asked smiling.

"Unless you want me to call you Lucas." Faithe said warningly.

"So where did you stay last night?" Luke asked.

"With Nikolas." Lucky said preparing himself to explain.

"What?!" Luke screamed.

"Just listen Dad." Lucky put up his hands in defense.

"Faithe, Liz, why don't we go into the kitchen and get some coffee." Laura said wanting to make a sticky situation easier. Faithe and Liz both nodded and followed Laura into the kitchen. Lucky then proceeded to fill Luke in on the situation.
