Love Me - Part 8

Lucky stood by Elizabeth's window looking out into the night, his mind racing trying to figure out how to proceed.

Elizabeth stirred, causing him to return to his place at the chair next to her bed. Watching her sleep remind him of all those nights after she was first raped when he would spend half the night watching over her.

There were times then when he would go the entire night without sleeping. Tonight was shaping up to be one of those nights as his mind refuse to rest.

Elizabeth's answering machine kicking in brought Lucky back to the present. ''Audrey must have turned off the ringer,'' thought Lucky as he heard Emily's voice asking if Elizabeth was there. ''You're wasting your time Emily, Elizabeth could sleep through an earthquake,'' smiled Lucky.

''I guess you're not there,'' Emily was now saying. ''Listen, give me a call as soon as you get this ok, Elizabeth. I am really worried about Tom getting out of Prison, although detective Taggart said we might be able to convince the Parole board not to let him out. Call me ok? We need to discuss what we are going to say to the board.''

Lucky's heart lurched as soon as Emily mentioned Tom Baker's name. ''You have got to be kidding,'' thought Lucky when the message was concluded. ''How can they even think of letting him out this soon, he's barely served a year,'' whispered Lucky.

Walking through the window, Lucky sat rubbing his temples on the room before taking out his cell phone and dialing Mrs. Diamond again. After three rings she picked up and in a breathless voice asked who was calling.

''Mrs. Diamond, oh thank god,'' said Lucky excitedly. ''Law? Is that that you?'' Inquired Mrs. Diamond, a worried tone in her voice.

''Yes, it's me,'' said Lucky. ''I really need your advice. I called you earlier, but I got your voice mail so I left a message for you to call me. Didn't you get it?'' Asked Lucky.

''I am sorry Law, I've been out all day. I just now returned and ran to catch this call. What is it? What's wrong?'' Asked Mrs. Diamond.

Lucky quickly filled Mrs. Diamond in on everything that had happened since his return to Port Charles, finishing with how Elizabeth responded to seeing him.

''I don't think she can handle this, Mrs. Diamond. I am worried that I might push her over the edge with my presence in her life. When she looks at me she sees Lucky, and knowing that Lucky died is just too confusing for her,'' finished Lucky.

Mrs. Diamond was silent for awhile before she addressed Lucky. ''Law, I think our situations might be different after all and therefore you may need to handle yours in a different way,'' said Mrs. Diamond.

''Wait, I don't understand, you said that everything about what I am going through mirrors your own experience. Are you now telling me that you think you were wrong and I am not here for the reasons we thought?''

''Law, Law, calm down,'' said Mrs. Diamond when she heard the panic in Lucky's voice. ''That's not what I am saying at all. I am certain that you are going through the same thing that I went through, in terms of getting a second chance to live your life. However, given the circumstances you are working with, I think the handling of your situation might need to be different from the way I handled mine,'' said Mrs. Diamond.

''I don't understand, either we are having the same experience or we are not,'' stated Lucky completed frustrated now.

''Law, think about our situations and tell me what's different about them,'' said Mrs. Diamond. ''I am not in the mood to play twenty questions right now,'' said Lucky becoming testy.

''Let's see, I am causing the woman I love more than life itself to go slowly insane. There's a psychopath on the verge of being set free and I need to hold Elizabeth and tell her everything will be ok,'' yelled Lucky, catching himself when he recalled where he was.

Mrs. Diamond listened to Lucky rage on for a minute, remembering when she was in a similar situation and could only share her frustration with Running Dove.

''Ok, Law, you are right and I am sorry about that. You call me for help and here I am asking you questions I already know the answers to. I know you are worried about Elizabeth and frustrated about your current situation.''

Pulling himself together, Lucky apologized for his outburst. ''No, Mrs. Diamond,'' sighed Lucky, much calmer now. ''I am the one that needs to apologize. I am living this incredible miracle and here you are trying to help me and instead of being grateful, I am yelling at you. I wouldn't blame you if you hung up on me right now,'' finished Lucky, feeling truly disgusted with himself now.

''Law, don't be so hard on yourself. Spirit or not you're still only human and entitled to feeling worried and scared.'' Mrs. Diamond heard Lucky sigh and knew that he was still upset with himself over his outburst.

''Law the difference between your situation and mine is that I was given a body that bore no resemblance to my other self, while you are walking around in a carbon copy of your former self.

I should have thought of this before, but I thought the fact that Law was Lucky's cousin would explain the resemblance. Now, the more I think about it, the more I realize that that logic only works if Law and Lucky weren't now one and the same.

See, its one thing to act like someone else that your bear no resemblance to, but quiet another to look, act and talk like that person. I can see now how your presence might be disconcerting to Elizabeth and even to everyone else that knew you.

Law, I think you have to tell Elizabeth the truth as soon as possible,'' said Mrs. Diamond. ''I think it's time she knew the truth about who you really are,'' finished Mrs. Diamond.

Lucky was silent for a long moment before he responded to what Mrs. Diamond said. ''What you said makes a lot of sense,'' said Lucky. ''I agree with you, now all I have to do is figure out how to tell her, any ideas?'' Asked Lucky hopefully.

''No, I think you can take it from here,'' said Mrs. Diamond, a smile in her voice. ''Elizabeth is your soul mate, so you know her better than anyone. You'll know how to tell her, of that I am certain,'' said Mrs. Diamond. ''And Lucky, remember you're Law now, which means you have responsibilities beyond who you used to be.''

''You mean Leo,'' said Lucky. ''Actually, I was thinking more of your business, the responsibilities that goes with it and all the people in your employ. ''I understand,'' said Lucky.

''Law, when it comes to Leo I don't worry about anything there. I remembered how up your face lit up when you mentioned him at our meeting. I know you will be the best father possible to Leo.

''I already feel like Leo's father and you are right I do take my responsibility towards him very seriously,'' said Lucky. ''I never doubted it Law,'' said Mrs. Diamond, her voice reflecting her pride in Lucky.

''I have complete faith in you to make this all come together,'' continued Mrs. Diamond. ''Law, let me know how it goes with Elizabeth and remember feel free to call me anytime,'' said Mrs. Diamond.

Lucky thanked Mrs. Diamond and apologized again for his angry outburst before concluding their conversation.

Stretching himself out on the roof, Lucky entwined his fingers behind his head and lay quietly just looking up at the stars thinking of what would come next.

''Hey Ruby, I know you had something to do with this. I can almost see you smiling, all pleased with yourself for pulling this off,'' whispered Lucky, a big smile on his face.

''Say, Ruby any great ideas on how I should go about telling Elizabeth about myself. I could sure use some help right now, I am drawing a complete blank on how to tell Elizabeth the truth.''

Lucky laid perfectly quiet for a few minutes, listening and hoping the answers he needed would come to him from somewhere.

''I guess, I have to figure this one out myself huh? That's what I thought, just thought if I asked really nice I could weasel a little more help,'' smiled Lucky.

Stepping back inside, Lucky return to his seat across from Elizabeth's bed. He continued to watch her sleep, noting how peaceful she looked when her conscious mind was shut down.

After watching Elizabeth for awhile, Lucky hopped to his feet and went directly to Elizabeth's closet where he pulled out a large duffel bag and began the task of packing some of Elizabeth's things.

Lucky smiled as he went about gathering some of Elizabeth's belongings. He couldn't help recalling the last time he had packed her things.

Elizabeth had left home with him, but in her haste to leave had fail to include several very important items, which Lucky had later returned to collect for her.

Lucky's movements cease for a second when he recalled how happy Elizabeth had been when he brought her, her stuff bear Boris, not to mention her perfume and make-up kit.

Shaking his head at the sweet memory, Lucky smiled when he remembered the look Elizabeth had given him and how much he had loved her in that moment and every moment since.

Returning to his task, Lucky face heated when he opened Elizabeth's underwear drawer and reverently pulled out a few pairs of panties along with matching bras. Lucky knew his face was probably a bright shade of red right now.

By the time Lucky had the necessary articles out and tucked into the duffel bag his heart was beating so loud it was deafening to his own ears.

''Get a grip Spencer,'' breathed Lucky in a shaky whisper. ''It's only underwear, you've seen underwear before haven't you? Not Elizabeth's underwear.'' Lucky took several deep breaths to calm himself and stem the flood of erotic thoughts that the simple garments had caused.

Pausing for a moment, Lucky looked around quickly to make sure he wasn't forgetting to pack anything. He mentally ran through the list of things he had packed and determined that he had packed everything Elizabeth would need for the next few days at least.

Lucky walked back over to Elizabeth and stood looking down at her for awhile before reaching down and scooping her up in one fluid movement.

''If this was anyone else I would be worried about them waking up, but not my Elizabeth,'' smiled Lucky as he made his way out Elizabeth's bedroom door, pulling it closed behind him.

Once outside, Lucky slid Elizabeth's still sleeping form gently into the passenger seat of his car and tossed the duffel bag into the back seat before taking the wheel and heading back to Lyndon Manor.

After driving for a few minutes Lucky remembered that he was still invisible and quickly willed his physical being back. ''The last thing I need is for Elizabeth to wake up to find a car driving itself with her in it,'' thought Lucky.

Glancing over at Elizabeth, Lucky could tell from her still even breathing that she was still deep into sleep and wondered for the umpteenth time how she could sleep through so much activity.

A short while later Lucky pulled up in front of the oversized front doors at Lyndon Manor and after tossing the duffel bag over his shoulder went around to the passenger side to gather Elizabeth once more into his arms.

Lucky noticed that Elizabeth stirred a little this time, but remained fast asleep snuggling her head contentedly against his neck. A broad smile spread across Lucky's face at the feel of Elizabeth so close causing a rapturous feeling to invade his whole body.

Due to the lateness of the hour, it appeared that the servants were all retired for the evening, so the trip from the car to the master bedroom was uneventful. Lucky breathed a sigh of relief when he reached his destination with Elizabeth still safely asleep.

A few minutes later Lucky stepped back from placing Elizabeth gently into the master bed and pulling the covers up to her neck. He watched her turn and burrowed her face deeply into the covers still soundly asleep.

Lucky stood watching Elizabeth sleep for several minutes before grabbing the throw blanket from the sofa in the attached sitting area of the room and pulling it over himself as he lay stretched on the floor next to the bed.

Lucky smiled as a feeling of nostalgia swept over him. He could recall in vivid detail all the times he had slept on the floor next to Elizabeth's bed, much like he was doing now. He remembered how despite the hardness of the floor how happy he always felt being so close to her that he could hear her breathing.

Lucky's mind returned to the situation at hand. He had only gotten as far as deciding that it was best to have Elizabeth here with him at Lyndon Manor when he told her the truth about himself. He had not however decided on how he would tell her. ''What do I say?''

Lucky sighed softly, trying to think of the right words to use to Elizabeth. ''It will come to me,'' thought Lucky as he gave in to the drug call sleep.

Above:

''Arrrrrggghhh,'' groaned Bill as he watched Lucky's breathing become even signifying sleep. Brenda shook her head at Bill before reaching over to lace her arm through his. ''It's ok Bill tomorrow is another day,'' soothed Brenda.

''Yea, you are right. Hey Ruby, what's with you getting all the accolades for pulling this deal off, every time I turn around the kid is talking about you,'' said Bill, smiling broadly at Ruby. ''What can I say Bill, Lucky just loves me to pieces,'' said Ruby who was still smiling over Lucky mentioning her earlier.

Next Morning Lyndon Manor:

Lucky woke before dawn to find Elizabeth still sleeping the covers thrown off sometime during the night. Moving quietly he took his shower and dressed before attending to a fussy Leo, who he changed and fed.

''Leo, you are not a morning person, are you? I am not either,'' said Lucky, smiling at his son who was just starting up his regular cheerful chatter. ''I will take him now sir,'' said Mrs. Worthington, taking Leo from Lucky.

Lucky had call for Mrs. Worthington to come and take care of Leo, since he was planning on dedicating whatever time was necessary to explain what was going on to Elizabeth.

Lucky's heart skipped a beat when he realized that it was getting closer to the time when he would tell Elizabeth the truth. He could feel himself trembling on the inside at the prospect of Elizabeth finally knowing what he did.

''Then it will be real,'' thought Lucky walking into the master bedroom to sit and watch a still sleeping Elizabeth. ''Nothing is real until I tell it to Elizabeth,'' whispered Lucky, a small smile curving his lips.

Above:

''Rise and shine sweetheart,'' said Steve, smiling broadly. ''Now look who is a little impatient this morning,'' said Bill. ''I share Steve's enthusiasm,'' said Dominique, ''this is a huge red letter day for Lucky and Liz.''

''Hush, she's stirring,'' said Mary Mae, her eyes shining with excitement. Everyone sat quietly, eyes glued to the scene unfolding below.

Lyndon Manor:

Elizabeth stretched and burrowed her head deeper into the pillow. Rolling onto her back, she flung both arms above her head and stretched again, languishing in the soft warmth of the soft sheet beneath her.

Eyes still closed, Elizabeth lay quietly for a few minutes letting her mind slowly adjust to wakefulness, something she did every morning before starting the day.

''Thank you Lord for another day, thank you for waking me up and for giving me health and strength. Thanks for my parents, my grandmother, my sister, the Spencers and all my friends. Lord bless Lucky in heaven and help me to be strong today, amen,'' whispered Elizabeth.

Still on her back, Elizabeth finally opened her eyes and stared for a second at the ceiling. Elizabeth's eyes grew huge when she realized that she wasn't staring at the same ceiling she's stared at for four years.

''What!'' exclaimed Elizabeth sitting straight up in bed before looking wildly around at her unfamiliar surrounding. Elizabeth let out a loud gasp when her eyes came to rest on the man from the day before.

Lucky remained seated in the chair across from the bed. He didn't want to alarm Elizabeth anymore than necessary by making any sudden movements so for a few moments he sat staring at her, a disarming smile on his face.

Elizabeth wondered why she wasn't terrified after her initial shock of waking up in a strange room to see the man from Kelly's looking at her so tenderly. For a second she, like him remained perfectly still staring back as though in a trance.

The events of the previous evening flooded Elizabeth's thoughts causing her heart to begin racing frantically, yet strangely she still felt no fear. Glancing quickly at her surroundings, Elizabeth wondered briefly how she got there. Still, she wasn't alarm.

As if he read her mind, Lucky stood slowly and walked over to where he had left the duffel bag containing Elizabeth's things. ''I brought you here Elizabeth,'' said Lucky holding up the bag and waiting to see how she would respond to his revelation before he went any further.

Elizabeth's mind raced as she tried to figure out what was going on. Elizabeth got slowly out of bed, her eyes never leaving Lucky's as she made her way over to stand in front of him.

Lucky knew he was shaking, but he couldn't stop himself. Suddenly his tongue felt like lead in his mouth rendering him speechless. ''Think stupid,'' thought Lucky, as Elizabeth stood staring at him without any signs of fear. ''Say something to her. God, please help me, please.''

Elizabeth watched as Lucky raked his fingers through his hair and licked his lips, the familiar gesture bringing an automatic smile to her lips as she stood regarding him.

''Think girl,'' thought Elizabeth. ''Why would Lucky be standing here with me ten months after he was killed in a fire. I know I am not hallucinating since Tammy has seen him too, but what's with this story of being Luke and Laura's nephew, Law. That's just a story, I know Lucky when I see him and here he is only inches away from me,'' thought Elizabeth, her eyes running the length of Lucky's form.

''What is she thinking,'' thought Lucky, allowing himself to get lost in Elizabeth's incredible eyes. ''I have to do something, but what? Should I just blurt it all out and be done with it, or should I wait for her to question me, yea, that's what I should do.''

''The fire must have been a set-up,'' reasoned Elizabeth. ''Lucky told me about Luke staging Laura's death, so maybe they staged his, but why?'' Elizabeth heart sunk a little at the thought of everyone leaving her ignorant to something like that.

''Maybe they couldn't tell me because of a threat of some sort,'' continued Elizabeth, her heart feeling lighter. ''The Cassidines, I bet this has to do with them. Lucky must have been in danger and needed to disappear, that's the only explanation. There is no way Lucky would have let me suffer this long unless it's for a damn good reason.''

Lucky watched the various different emotions played across Elizabeth's face wishing he knew what she was thinking about so intently. He was afraid to move or say anything yet, so he continued to stand and regard her silently.

''You are dead meat Lucky Spencer, no matter what your reasons,'' thought Elizabeth excited now that she thought she had it all figured out.

Glancing quickly around at her surroundings, Elizabeth wondered if they were in a hideout of some sort. ''Perhaps, Lucky is still in danger, but he risk coming to get me. Great, and I made this ridiculous scene at Kelly's and now I probably called attention to him,'' continued Elizabeth chiding herself.

''I can't believe how much he's grown in ten months,'' thought Elizabeth. ''The story about being Luke and Laura's nephew must have been some sort of cover for Tammy's benefit. I hope I didn't blow it by screaming for all to hear that he was Lucky not Law.''

Elizabeth, feeling satisfied that she had the situation figured out in part smiled up at Lucky before throwing herself into his arms wrapping her arms around his neck and her legs around his waist.

''Oh Lucky, I missed you so much,'' cried Elizabeth, raining kisses all over Lucky's face. Lucky was completely taken by surprise and staggered backwards a little when Elizabeth first leaped into his arms.

Lucky did what came natural and wrapped his arms securely around Elizabeth, reveling in her kisses and the feel of her in his arms.

''Oh Lucky, I didn't believe you were dead at first until I saw the subway token and then I had to let myself believe it. I felt you were alive in my heart Lucky, I could feel you with me everyday,'' said Elizabeth, tightening her hold on Lucky for another minute.

Lucky held tightly onto Elizabeth, never wanting to let her go, but listening to her speak realized that Elizabeth must have convinced herself somehow that he had not really died in the fire after all. ''God, help please,'' thought Lucky a helpless feeling descending on him as he continued to hold Elizabeth. ''Just spit it out now,'' Lucky told himself firmly.

Lucky gently pulled away from Elizabeth, unwrapping her arms from around his neck and watching her intently as her legs slide down his waste and back onto the ground. He was lost for a minute in her happy shining eyes as she stood looking lovingly up at him.

''Elizabeth,'' began Lucky, deciding that it was time to share his story with her starting from the very beginning.

Lucky was about to continue when Mrs. Worthington entered the open bedroom door carrying Leo. ''Dada!'' Shouted Leo as soon as his eyes landed on Lucky.

Lucky looked immediately up at Leo and returned the baby's infectious smile. Lucky could sense Elizabeth's body tensing as soon as Leo called out to him. He watched as Elizabeth turned slowly around and then froze when she saw the baby.

''Mr. Scott, it's such a beautiful day,'' stammered a red face Mrs. Worthington, who was obviously reacting to seeing a night gown clad woman in her employer's room. ''I thought I would take Leo for a stroll,'' announced Mrs. Worthington as she regarded Elizabeth, a puzzled expression on her face.

''That's fine Mrs. Worthington,'' answered Lucky walking over to where Mrs. Worthington stood with Leo and kissing one of Leo's outstretched arm. ''Mrs. Worthington is going to take you for a nice ride in your stroller, Leo,'' said Lucky gently, nodding a dismissal to Mrs. Worthington.

Glancing once more at Elizabeth who had remained frozen in place, Mrs. Worthington left carrying a chattering Leo with her.

Closing the door, Lucky took a deep breath before turning slowly around to face Elizabeth who had remained rooted in the same place throughout the entire exchange.

Elizabeth regarded Lucky for a long moment before she finally spoke. ''He's your son,'' she whispered. ''I could tell, he looks just like you,'' said Elizabeth backing away as Lucky began walking towards her.

''It's true then, you really are Luke and Laura's nephew, Law'' stated Elizabeth, her face once again showing disappointment, confusion and disbelief. Lucky tried unsuccessfully to get Elizabeth to listen to him, but she kept talking and backing up until she tumbled backwards onto the bed.
