Lucky stood frozen just inside of Kelly's staring at Elizabeth, whose eyes were locked on him. He watched as her beautiful eyes silently registered joy, shock, horror, disbelief and confusion in that order, before she squeezed them tightly shut.
Lucky kept his legs from running over to Elizabeth and gathering her in his arms. He knew that he had to remain calm and not let on that he recognized her. Taking a deep breath, Lucky walked over to the counter and sat down.
Elizabeth, her eyes closed, counted to ten, ignoring the customer inquiring whether she was ok. She kept her eyes tightly closed as she thought about Lucky's voice in the wind the evening before.
''I just imagined his voice last night just as I am imagining him standing here,'' thought Elizabeth, curious as to why she would imagine Lucky five inches taller.
After taking several deep breaths, Elizabeth opened her eyes and stared at the door. She smiled sadly when she saw that the doorway was empty and was relieve to see that all the customers had returned to their previous activities.
Elizabeth apologized to the customer that was still watching her intently. ''I am fine sir, forgive my strange behavior. I will be with you shortly to take your order,'' said Elizabeth calmly. Once she was certain the man was reassured, Elizabeth turned to retrieve a broom and bin for the broken glasses at her feet.
Elizabeth froze when her eyes landed on the man sitting at the counter. Even from behind, she recognized him as the vision she had just seen in the doorway. She swallowed hard, realizing that she must still be hallucinating and made a mental note to speak to Dr. Baldwin about this latest development.
Elizabeth went shakily to the back to retrieve the broom and dustbin before returning to clean up her the broken coffeepot. She then made a second trip for the mop, quickly mopping up the coffee on the floor.
Lucky was completely confused by Elizabeth's actions and wondered if he should say or do something to get her attention. ''She must be in shock,'' thought Lucky and wondered how he should handle the situation without sending Elizabeth completely over the edge.
Throughout her task Elizabeth deliberately refrained from looking at the counter, instead she emptied her mind of everything except waiting on her customers.
She had just completed taking the man's ordered as promised when she heard the loud scream from Tammy. ''Lucky!'' Shirked Tammy, her eyes huge with shock, her hands framing her face.
Shaking her head wildly, Tammy backed away from the counter. ''It can't be,'' cried Tammy as Elizabeth turned to watch the scene at the counter.
Lucky felt as though he was watching everything in slow motion. He didn't possess the will power not to turn to see Elizabeth's reaction to Tammy seeing him. He watched as Elizabeth walk up to the counter just staring at him a look of complete awe on her face.
Tears rolled down Elizabeth's cheeks as she regarded Lucky in shock. ''Hello,'' whispered Lucky weakly. He felt paralyzed with longing as his and Elizabeth's eyes devoured each other for what seems like an eternity.
Elizabeth's mind was a whirl of confusion as she took in the man sitting before her. Looking into his eyes she felt shaken to her core as she recognized the undisguised love shinning there.
''Lucky?'' Elizabeth whispered before the world went out of focus. Lucky knew Elizabeth would faint before her legs actually failed her and she began sliding to the floor. Moving swiftly, Lucky caught Elizabeth's unconscious body before she crumbled to the floor.
''You're dead,'' whispered Tammy in a shaky voice. She rounded the counter gingerly just staring at Lucky as he continued to hold Elizabeth's unconscious body.
Lucky called up every reserve of strength within him to remain calm and look up from Elizabeth to address Tammy.
Looking directly at Tammy, Lucky displayed a calm he didn't feel as he addressed her. ''Lawrence Scott, Ms., but please call me Law, my Uncle Luke and Laura told me to expect this reaction.''
Tammy breathed a noticeable sigh of relief but still continued to regard Lucky in amazement. ''That would explain the resemblance, I guess,'' said Tammy.'' I guess they were right when they said that everyone has a double.''
Everyone in Kelly's watched Lucky, Tammy and Elizabeth with interest, while a few customers walking up to the three to inquire about Elizabeth. Holding Elizabeth close to him, Lucky asked everyone to step back before telling them that the situation was under control.
A few minutes later Elizabeth began to stir as she slowly returned to consciousness. Elizabeth opened her eyes, and quickly began to struggle as she felt herself being held against the strong, masculine chest. Lucky quickly set Elizabeth on her feet not wanting to alarm her any further.
Once the fog in Elizabeth's mind cleared, she was able to focus once again as the events of the last several minutes returned to her.
Spinning quickly around, Elizabeth came face to face once again with the Lucky aberration. ''Oh god, not again,'' cried Elizabeth, quick tears springing to her eyes as she regarded Lucky is complete disbelieve.
Seeing the look on Elizabeth's face, Tammy rushed over to Elizabeth in order to prevent a repeat of what happened before.
''Elizabeth, this is Lawrence Scott, everyone calls him Law. He is Luke and Laura's nephew, Lucky's cousin. That's why he looks so much like Lucky.
Elizabeth looked from Tammy to Lucky trying to absorb what Tammy said, but from the continued confused look on Elizabeth's face, both Lucky and Tammy could tell she was still not convinced.
Tammy reached out her hands to Lucky quickly introducing herself before turning back to Elizabeth. ''Law this is Elizabeth Webber,'' said Tammy, still grasping his hand.
''She was Lucky's girlfriend so you can understand why your presence would cause the reaction you just witnessed. Elizabeth?'' Said Tammy, smiling reassuringly at Elizabeth.
Once Tammy released Lucky's hand, he offered it to Elizabeth who gingerly placed her tiny hand in his. Elizabeth snatched her hand back immediately as she felt the all too familiar electricity course through her body.
''No!'' cried Elizabeth, backing away as sobs began rocking her body causing her to shake uncontrollable. ''Not, Law. Lucky,'' she screamed.
Turning, Elizabeth backed away from a surprised Tammy and Lucky and raced out the door of kelly's. ''Elizabeth!'' screamed Lucky taking off after her, leaving a still shaken Tammy.
After racing after Elizabeth for a couple of blocks, Lucky willed his physical form away as he continued to chase after Elizabeth, who was heading in the direction of her grandmother's house.
Elizabeth kept running until she reached the Webber's residence. Audrey looked up in surprise as she heard the door being flung open and saw as breathless Elizabeth tumbling inside.
''Elizabeth, darling, what's the matter dear?'' Asked Audrey hurrying over to hold Elizabeth. ''Gram, I just saw Lucky,'' cried Elizabeth out of breath.
''Oh, darling,'' sighed Audrey pulling Elizabeth into her arms. ''Darling, I know you miss Lucky terribly, but honey, Lucky died ten month ago, remember?'' Soothed Audrey, patting Elizabeth's back in an attempt to comfort her.
Holding Elizabeth's trembling form to her, Audrey walked her over to sit on the sofa where she continued holding Elizabeth until her breathing returned to normal and her sobs began subsiding.
During all this Lucky looked on feeling helpless. Moving quietly, Lucky followed Audrey and Elizabeth into the living area sitting across from them in what used to be his favorite chair.
Once Elizabeth had caught her breath and was calm enough to speak she related to Audrey what had happened at Kelly's. ''Oh darling it seems then that Lucky's cousin just has a strong resemblance to him,'' said Audrey softly.
''No,'' said Elizabeth getting up and pacing the room. ''It was Lucky, gram it was him. I could tell.'' Audrey in an attempt to calm her granddaughter got up and walked over to gather Elizabeth to her.
''Come upstairs with me dear,'' said Audrey soothingly. Elizabeth, a wild look still in her eyes slowly allowed her grandmother to lead her up the stairs and into her room.
Once there, Audrey pulled back the covers and waited as Elizabeth climbed in before pulling the covers up to her chin. Seeing the subdue state Elizabeth was now in Audrey tried unsuccessfully to hold back her tears.
''Darling I know how much you love and miss Lucky. I know that you want nothing more than to have Lucky back with you, but darling Lucky is gone. He's been gone for ten months and you have to let him go. It's what he would want you to do,'' continued Audrey.
Elizabeth tried to focus on what her grandmother was saying, but nothing she said could erase what Elizabeth knew she saw today.
''The eyes looking at me were Lucky's gram, not somebody name Lawrence, I just know it. The way he looked at me gram, that's exactly how Lucky used to look at me,'' continued Elizabeth.
Audrey remained with Elizabeth until she finally fell asleep, still insisting that the man she saw at Kelly's was Lucky.
Once Elizabeth had drifted off to sleep Audrey quietly left the room and went downstairs where she quickly dialed Luke and Laura.
Lucky watched Elizabeth as she slept. He had followed Audrey and Elizabeth upstairs and had stood quietly by the window as he watched Audrey sitting on Elizabeth's bed trying to sooth her.
His heart broke as he listened to Elizabeth tell Audrey that she was certain that Law was Lucky. He knew that he had to do something, Elizabeth's seeing him was more unsettling to her than he had ever imagined and his remaining silent would only serve to destroy Elizabeth's already fragile state of mind.
Once Audrey left the room, Lucky sat watching Elizabeth from the chair across from her bed. Lucky replayed the scene at Kelly's trying to think of how he could have revealed himself to Elizabeth without causing her so much pain.
''I should have waited until mom and dad told her about me,'' thought Lucky. ''I should have waited to be introduced, instead of just showing up at Kelly's like that. What did I expect to accomplish by doing that, except my own gratification?'' thought Lucky scowling himself for his thoughtlessness. ''I just needed to see you so badly, but still, I should have waited.''
Lucky watched Elizabeth for another minute, going over to her and placing a light, barely detectable kiss on her forehead. Elizabeth stirred immediately, causing Lucky to pull back quickly.
Lucky watched as a smile appeared on Elizabeth's face. ''You're back,'' mumbled Elizabeth softly. ''I missed you yesterday, don't ever leave me again. Turning, Elizabeth sighed contentedly before curling herself around her pillow.
Lucky stood back shocked. ''She can feel me,'' whispered Lucky, staring down at Elizabeth. ''I have to call Mrs. Diamond.''
''Audrey, I am really sorry,'' Laura was now saying. ''Luke and I knew we were going to need to warn everyone about Law, but we really thought we would have some more time before he ran into Elizabeth. I was actually planning to call her and ask her to come over after her shift today so I could tell her about him.''
''Laura, don't apologize, you didn't know. I was calling mostly because after Elizabeth's reaction, I just wondered how much this Law really looks like Lucky?''
''Audrey let me put it this way. Picture Lucky in your mind, now add about five inches to the height of that picture of Lucky. Also picture Lucky broader built and about three years older, and finally dress him in designer clothes and you've got Law.''
''So you're saying the resemblance is startling?'' Asked Audrey. ''Very startling. Luke and I were shocked when we met him too. Luke even thought he was hallucinating for a minute until Law explained who he was.''
''Well, Elizabeth is asleep right now, but when she wakes up I will tell her what you told me and hopefully that will help ease her mind. Right now she's convinced she saw Lucky,'' continued Audrey, fresh tears flooding her cheeks.
''Audrey if you like, I can call Luke at the club and he and I can come over and talk to Elizabeth.'' ''No, no, that's ok Laura. I am sure once Elizabeth wakes up she will be in a better frame of mind, which will allow her to understand that she was seeing Law not Lucky.''
''Audrey, Promise me that if there's anything Luke or I can do, you will let us know.'' ''Of course I will Laura, but I really do think Elizabeth will be fine once she's had some sleep. However if she's still coming apart over this, I will ask for your help and perhaps Dr. Baldwin's.''
Lucky caught the end of Audrey's conversation with his mother from his position at the top of the stairs and prayed she was correct about Elizabeth. Still, Lucky needed to talk to Mrs. Diamond and learn whether she thinks, given Elizabeth's reaction to him that perhaps he should reveal who he really was.
Sighing, Lucky continued down the stairs and through the door. After walking back to Kelly's Lucky got into his car before willing himself back to the physical after checking to make certain no one was around.
Dialing quickly, Lucky waited to talk to Mrs. Diamond, but got her voice mail instead. Groaning loudly, Lucky waited until the beep to leave a desperate message asking Mrs. Diamond to call him at her earliest convenience.
He included that it was an emergency and left his cell number, asking that she call him anytime day or night. With that Lucky returned home to spend some time with Leo before he went down for the night, at which time Lucky planned to return to watch Elizabeth unobserved.
Luke's Club:
''Look Claude, it's the Queen of wickedness,'' shouted Luke as Helena Cassidine stormed into the club. ''It won't work Luke, so you may as well quit now and I promise not to destroy you and all you hold dear.''
Luke could see that Helena was attributing some nasty deeds to him, causing a devious smile to spread across his face. ''Helena, what's got your panties in a bunch now, didn't drink enough blood for supper?'' Chuckled Luke.
''You know exactly what I am referring to Luke so stop playing the fool, we both know it's just an act.'' ''Seriously Vamps, I have no idea what you are talking about, but if you want to give me credit for disturbing you coffin, I am flattered.''
Luke could see that whatever it was that caused Helena to come calling was big and wondered if it was too late to get in on the action.
''Hells, why don't you tell me what it is you think I am guilty of and then I may or may not tell you whether you're right,'' said Luke, his lips curled in a smile, but is eyes regarding Helena coldly.
''You hired someone to try and scare me Luke, now admit it,'' said Helena glaring at Luke. ''I hire someone to scare you?'' Asked Luke puzzled. ''Now, Helena you are getting your roles reversed. You are the blood sucker, so you do the spooking.''
''Luke Spencer, I know what you did and I am warning you stop now or this childish prank will cost you dearly,'' said Helena firmly.
''Whatever you say Vamp, but I have no idea what you are talking about, but I hope I get a chance to congratulate whoever is messing with your head,'' shouted Luke to Helena's disappearing back.
Luke poured himself a shot and took a drink as he considered his conversation with Helena. ''The old battle ax was scared stiff, that much I could tell,'' thought Luke, but how was she scared and by whom.
''Looks like someone else enjoys torturing the old goat,'' smiled Luke, rubbing his head as he tried to figure out who could be having so much fun without him.
Port Charles Police Department:
''THIS CAN'T BE HAPPENING, NO, NO, NO,'' yelled Taggart sending a file sailing across his desk. Mac came rushing out of his office a second later a confused look on his face. ''Taggart what's the matter with you,'' asked Mac. ''Why are you yelling at the top of your lungs.''
Taggart visible attempt to calm down before addressing Mac. ''I just got off the phone with the parole board. Tom Baker has a parole hearing coming up,'' said Taggart sending another file flying.
''Great just what we need another pervert on the loose,'' said Mac slumping into the chair across from Taggart.
''We've got to warn Elizabeth and Emily,'' continued Mac. ''I will do better than that,'' said Taggart. I am going to ask Emily, Elizabeth and Nicholas to speak at Tom's hearing. Maybe, just maybe if the board hears from them they will reconsider any decision to set Tom free.''
''Taggart that's an excellent idea and it's really thoughtful of you to take this so personally,'' said Mac. ''Mac, Tom Baker raped Elizabeth Webber, yet he only got sent away for blackmail and extortion.
He was given two years and he's barely served one, it's not fair Mac. Elizabeth has been through so much Mac, first getting rape when she was so young. Then Lucky Spencer dying, which is still taking a toll on her. I see her at Kelly's and she looks so lost and alone, like she's waiting for it to be over or something.
The last thing she needs now is Tom Baker, especially now that Lucky is gone. Then there is Emily Quartermaine, how safe is she going to feel with Tom walking around. No, he needs to serve the remainder of his term and then some.''
''Taggart, I agree with you, but it's up to the parole board now, although I think having the kids testify is a wonderful idea. The only other thing we can do is warn Elizabeth and Emily to be careful if he does gets out,'' finished Mac.
After Mac returned to his office, Taggart called first Emily at the Quartermaines, then Nicholas followed by Elizabeth. Taggart was told that Elizabeth was resting so he left the message about Tom with Elizabeth's grandmother who promised to have Elizabeth get back to him as soon as possible.
Lydon Manor:
Lucky was drenched from giving Leo a bath. The little boy was completely happy with his new surroundings and playing with Lucky. Watching his son, Lucky wondered if Leo in anyway sensed that anything was different from before.
As he powdered and lotioned Leo, Lucky smiled down at the beautiful baby who was currently chattering away about nothing in particular. Every once in a while Leo would look directly at Lucky and give him the most amazing smile, causing Lucky's heart to melt.
''I promise I will be the best father I can, Leo,'' said Lucky. ''I love you, yes I do,'' cooed Lucky. Leo squealed with delight as Lucky tickled him all over before putting on his diaper followed by a fresh crawler.
Swinging Leo in his arms, Lucky set off for the rocker where he looked for a book from the stack Mrs. Worthington had brought with them. ''Here's one that looks like fun Leo,'' said Lucky holding the squirming baby tighter to him.
As soon as lucky began reading to Leo his movements still. From time to time Leo would glance at Lucky's mouth as he read, but continued to be still and quiet as though he understood clearly.
Half an hour later, Lucky stopped reading when he heard Leo's even breathing as he rested contentedly against Lucky's chest. Lucky just stared at Leo in awe for a minute, realizing that when he said he loved Leo he meant it. ''Wow,'' said Lucky. ''You are like this perfect miracle, I guess it's my year for miracles,'' whispered Lucky.
A few minutes later, Lucky backed quietly away from Leo's crib, smiling softly at how angelic his son looked in his sleep.
''One would never know that you were the same little rascal that threw peas at me and splashed out half the bath water,'' thought Lucky.
Changing quickly Lucky ate a quick supper before setting out once more for Elizabeth's house. His pulse quickened at the thought of seeing her again and looked forward to the night ahead.
Nicholas Cottage:
Nicholas thought about Taggart's phone call and the problem of Tom Baker. Though he was genuinely concerned for Emily and Elizabeth, he couldn't help thinking that the threat of Tom would bring Elizabeth closer to him. Nicholas was convinced that this would finally show Elizabeth how much she needed his support.
''I just need to show her how much she means to me,'' thought Nicholas. ''During this stressful time I will be there for you Elizabeth. Lucky would want me to be, he would.''
Sitting on the steps leading to the living room, Nicholas thought about the upcoming weeks and how it could change his relationship with Elizabeth.
Above:
''Well, Ruby what do you think?'' Asked Mary Mae. ''Should Lucky just go ahead and tell Elizabeth or wait until she gets to know him and even Leo?''
Everyone waited to hear how Ruby would respond having been thinking about the same thing. ''I have been thinking about that since I saw Elizabeth's reaction and I just don't know anymore. Steve?''
Steve scratched his head before responding. ''I don't know either, it has to be a judgement call on Lucky's part. We'll just have to wait and see what Lucky does. I am sure he'll do the right thing,'' said Steve. ''So far he's been very doing a wonderful job and I am sure this will be the same.
''I was so sad for Elizabeth,'' said Brenda. ''But then I was encouraged. She knew it was Lucky, somehow she just know. She also knows when he's around, at least subconsciously.''
''Hey look, Law has returned to her side, have you ever seen such devotion,'' said Dominique. ''It's so romantic,'' said BJ, beaming sweetly.
''Did you see Helena's face?'' Asked Bill, losing it again at the sight of Helena running scared. ''Yea, poor Luke though,'' said Stone. ''He's in the dark right now about who is having so much fun without him. When he finds out that Lucky is haunting Helena he's going to laugh himself off one of those bar stools,'' roared Stone.
The group continued to discuss the events of the day for awhile longer before they were drawn to the beautiful voices of the archangels.
