Some Things Never Change - Chapter 10

by: Jess

"What's your problem man?" Lucky had never seen him before but this guy looked at him like he knew him.

Roy couldn't believe what he was seeing. This kid looked just like the picture on the mantel at Luke and Laura's house. He was a lot skinnier and looked like he was hungry. He was wearing jeans a T-shirt and a flannel, but he was dirty like he'd been traveling. But it couldn't be him, he was dead. Wasn't he? "What's your name?"

Lucky turned and was about to run but the guy put his hand on his shoulder and stopped him. Lucky knew he was in no shape to try getting away. "What do you want? Just let me go." He said he didn't act scared but he was.

"I'm not going to hurt you I swear. Tell me your name kid."

Lucky stood up straight as if to say this guy couldn't tell him what to do. "Tell me yours."

Roy let him go. Luke had told him that he told Lucky all about him and Roy. So if this kid heard his name he would know he was a friend of Luke's. He put out his hand, "Roy Deluca." He watched as the kid's eyes went wide and then confused.

"Your dead." He said quietly.

"No I was in prison. I never died. If my eyes aren't lying than you didn't either. Your Lucky aren't you? You can tell me. I'm still friends with your dad and I'm married to Bobbie."

Lucky nodded his head. "I have to get to my dad. I have to see him." Lucky couldn't believe this. He hoped this guy would help him. Another of the back from the dead. "Do you know where he is?"

"At a wedding. I'll take you to your house and then you can see your parents when they get back."

"NO!"

Roy looked at him weird. "Look let's get I the truck."

Lucky went with him and they started going. Roy asked where he wanted to go and Lucky said, "The club. Who's getting married?" He prayed to God it wasn't Elizabeth.

"Carly and Jason Morgan."

"Jason is marrying Carly? My dad is at Carly's wedding? My dad hates Carly."

"He's giving her away. Things have changed."

"Yeah like your married to Aunt Bobbie. What happened to Jacks?"

"Got into some trouble. He skipped town. What happened to you?"

"Wait for my dad. Will you get him? After you drop me off?"

"Yeah. I'll give you my key."

"Don't need it man." He said. Like a Spencer would need a key to get into somewhere.

Roy laughed, "Your dad is right. You are as arrogant as him."

Lucky smiled, "What else has changed?"

"Well Nikolas and your dad get along. He has a live in girlfriend at the brownstone."

"Hold on Nikky and dad? No way. My dad hates him and he hates dad."

"Not anymore. They aren't like best friends but they make it possible to enjoy family dinners. Laura loves it."

Lucky smiled at his moms name, "How is she? And Lulu and Emily and…"

"Elizabeth? They are all okay. Emily met a kid right after you… you know… she's in love with him. Your mom had it rough for a while, she had a breakdown. Your dad was lost too. They're back together you know?"

Lucky smiled and said, "Really? I thought they'd never…"

"They were brought together by your death. It's weird saying that. Trust me I know. Lulu she misses you like crazy. She still talks about you. They never let her forget you." They pulled up to the club and Lucky said, "What about Elizabeth?"

"Wait for your dad okay. He can tell you."

Roy walked into the church. It was the very end of the ceremony cause Jason was kissing her. Bobbie turned to watch them walk out and glared at Roy. When the newly weds left the church she came storming over to him and said, "Where were you? How could you not show up?"

"Bobbie I am sorry. I can't explain now I have to talk to Luke. Honey I swear I will explain it all later." Roy kissed her and walked quickly over to Luke. He was standing with Liz and Laura, and holding Lorenzo. "Hey man, I need you to come with me."

Luke looked at him an said, "What's wrong?"

Roy wanted to shout it out right there but knew Lucky didn't want that. "Please Luke just come with me."

"Hey Little Cowboy go see your mama. Honey I'll see you later okay. At the reception at Bobbie's."

Luke was getting pissed. Roy wouldn't tell him what was going on. They were going to the club and that was all he knew.

Lucky was sitting in his dad's chair. There was a picture of him as a baby on the desk. Another of him as a teen and one of Lulu and Laura, there was one of Elizabeth too. He hadn't seen her face in so long. Helena had ripped the picture Faison had given him and then took it. He sat waiting for his dad and thought about all their times together.

"So I can sing and dance in front of people. I'm still a basket case. I can't even walk down the street by myself. I'm afraid of being touched. I'm starting to think that it's impossible that I'll ever have a normal relationship, and I refuse to accept that... Will you help me?"

"You know I will. What can I do?"

"Kiss me."

"Look, I probably shouldn't say this--but I have wanted to kiss you a hundred times."

"You have?"

"Yeah for months."

"I can't compete with Sarah."

"Sarah who?"

"I was on my way to see you, too. I just wanted to stop here to be able to give you a good progress report."

"Look, you don't--you don't have to do anything for me. I mean, if you--if you stay just the way you are this very second, it'd be more than fine by me."

"Nikolas, handsome? Give me a break. You're attracted to wax figures."

"I'm attracted...to people more like you."

"That light in your eye? You know… that sort of twinkle? You don't see that a lot. And the way your eyes change colors, the way you look at me."

"I'll let you in on a secret. My eyes don't twinkle when you're not around."

"Oh yes they do. Lucky I've watched you. Watching you was my all-consuming hobby. Oh. So much for subtlety."

"Subtlety's...subtlety's fine, you know, as far as it goes. You see, it only goes so far. Subtlety is that sweater looks pretty, when what you really mean is I love your mouth."

"Lucky? You're the best."

"And you make me feel like I'm finally living up to my name."

"You're the best thing that's ever happened to me."

"See how much we have in common? Because you're the best thing that's ever happened to me, too."

"You know this is not a real Christmas tree. This is just the top of a real Christmas tree. In fact, it's the top of a real Christmas tree sitting on a dishpan."

"Shh. You're going to give it a complex. Now, go sit down. Come on, sit down. Leave everything in my capable hands. I'll have you singing 'Deck the Halls' before you know it."

"Or maybe Merry Christmas, Baby."

"I mean, it's like it bothers her that we're happy. You're the best thing in my life -- the best thing ever. I just can't stand her messing with that."

"She can't. She can't mess with that. Nobody can."

"You sure?"

"Nobody. You and I, we're - we're solid. Okay? Come here."

"You know what you are? You're a keeper."

"I'm a keeper of what?"

"You keep making me love you."

"I really like you. You know that?"

"Care to count the ways? I got, I got time."

"Do I have something on my face?"

"I just wanted to touch you."

"Are you in dreamland?"

"I spent the whole day in dreamland."

Lucky knew he was crying. He had spent so much time crying over the years. God he missed her so much. He missed everyone, but it was thinking of her that kept him alive. He would have let them kill him a month after he got there if he hadn't thought of her. Her laugh, her smile, the way she got excited at the littlest things. He heard someone walking in the other room. He took a deep breath to get ready for his dad.

"Roy why are we here? It's my nieces wedding. Laura is going to kill me if we don't hurry up."

"Luke shut up and prepare yourself. You're about to get the sight of your life buddy."

Luke watched him as he opened he door to Luke's office. He stared inside not believing what he was seeing. More importantly who he was seeing. He saw him stand up and he had a worried look on his face. He thought he was seeing things like when Lucky first died. And for the first time in his life he couldn't think of anything to say.
