Some Things Never Change - Chapter 9

by: Jess

Lucky was close he could tell. He saw all the landmarks and they were familiar. The daylight had hurt his eyes but after being in it so long his eyes adjusted. He hadn't seen any sign of Helena or her men. He owed his life to the guard. Helena had put him through hell. Over the past years he'd been beaten every time he'd talked back to her. He had never tried to escape again until this time. He'd been too afraid that she would hurt Liz. But the guard had told him he didn't think Liz had been hurt. Lucky knew Helena was capable of anything so he had to wait and see for himself.

"Excuse me do you want a ride?" Lucky hadn't noticed the car that pulled up beside him. He jumped thinking it was one of Helena's men. "Dear are you okay?"

Lucky looked it was an older woman. He was scared though. What if she worked for Helena? He was so sick of walking though and he'd always been a good judge of character. She seemed like a nice lady. "Who… who are you?"

"My name is Karen Lewis. I'm not going to hurt you. I just saw you walking, do you want a ride?"

Lucky got in and prayed to God that this wasn't a mistake.

Elizabeth smiled at the grave. She touched the words as she'd done years ago. "Hi Lucky. I'm back. Can you believe I'm here for Jason and Carly's wedding? They're actually getting married, finally. They are so happy Lucky. I am Carly's maid of honor, God Lucky I wish you were here. Like at Felicia and Mac's wedding, we could be together. Renzo is getting so big. He looks just like you and he even reminds me of you. You would be so proud of him. I think I'm ready to move back home. I think I could do this now. I could show our son the boxcar and all the other places we had so much fun at."

"You do know it's dangerous to pick up hitch hikers right?" Lucky asked the lady.

"Yes I do but you looked like a nice young man and I didn't think you would hurt me. Are you hurt?"

"I'm okay now. I just have to get home."

"How long since you've been there?"

"Three years. Drop me off the closest you can to Port Charles please."

"Where I am going you'll only have to walk a few miles to get there. You have someone waiting?"

"I hope so." God he missed Liz. She was what had kept him alive all this time. He hoped and prayed that she was doing okay. He hoped she had recovered from his death, or supposed death. But he knew he couldn't see her right away. He had to see his dad first and tell him about Helena.

Elizabeth sat on the chair in Carly's room at the church. Emily and Gina were the bride's maids. Sonny was Jason's best man, Michael the ring bearer, Lulu the flower girl, and Luke was giving her away. She wished this were her wedding. It would all be the same except Nikolas would be best man. She could picture marrying Lucky, picture him coming home to her everyday after work, them making love after Lorenzo was in bed for the night. No, she couldn't do this. Not today, this was Carly's day. Lorenzo was with Laura.

"Hey Liz are you okay?" Emily had come into the room.

"Yeah I am. I'm fine Em. Where's Juan?"

"Playing with Michael. The poor baby is going crazy. He hates all this waiting around. Hey mom came. Jason talked to her yesterday and invited her. She came with Grandmother."

"Lila must be so happy for them. She always said they were meant for each other."

"She is. She's sitting right up front. Grandfather was so mad when she said she was going. Even more mad then he was when I said I was moving in with Juan."

"Em!" said Liz with a smile. "You didn't tell me that."

"We just decided to yesterday. I hate being away from him at night Liz. I'm nineteen and they can't make me live in that house anymore."

Lucky had been walking for almost an hour. He had passed the welcome to Port Charles sign a little while ago. He was being careful now. He didn't want anyone to see him. At first he thought he'd just run through and go right to his dad but then he realized what a shock it would be to everyone. To them all he was dead. He looked and saw no cars coming, so he started to cross the street. He was going to his dads club.

Roy knew Bobbie was going to kill him. He was so late. The wedding was starting in a few minutes and he was still almost twenty minutes from the church. He looked down at the clock again and when he looked up there was a boy walking and he was going to hit him. He honked the horn and the kid looked up and jumped out of the way. Roy stopped and got out to see if he was. "Hey kid you okay?" The boy was lying on his stomach. Roy heard him moan an answer. He put his hand on the boy's shoulder and helped him to turn around. "Sorry, man I wasn't watching where I was going."

Lucky turned towards the man. Thank God, he didn't know him. "It's okay, I'm fine man." Lucky got up and dusted himself off. When he looked back up at the guy he got kind of scared. The guy was staring at him.

"Oh my God." Said Roy staring intensely at the boy.
