Lucky hadn’t noticed Lorenzo was on the couch. He didn’t even know his son was asleep a few feet away from him. He couldn’t take his eyes off the little boy. Liz went to him right away and picked him up. She talked to him quietly and it was exactly how he always pictured her when she became a mother. He’d told her once that she’d make a good mom. “Mama cwy?”
“Yeah baby.”
“Mama sad?”
“No Renzo. I’m happy.” She turned towards Lucky. “Lucky this-”
“I saw the picture at the club. Dad told me.”
Liz watched him look at their son. He was staring intently at him. Lorenzo stared back his face became confused and he scratched the back of his head just like Lucky used to do when he was nervous or confused. “The picure mama.”
“Yeah honey. He’s from the picture.”
“‘Smy daddy?”
“Renzo remember when I told you daddy was with God?” The little boy nodded never taking his eyes from Lucky’s face. “Well he wasn’t, he was only away. And now he’s here.”
Lucky walked towards his son and his love. He was unsure of what to say to his son. It turns out he didn’t have to say anything. At that very moment the doorbell rang and seconds later Bobbie came in looking pale faced with a letter. Roy went to her right away and took it. He looked at it then Lucky, “It’s for you.”
Lucky took the letter that was apparently sent by messenger. He opened it and it said, “Enjoy your reunion while it last dear boy. You got away this time but next time you won’t have a chance.” He dropped the letter and stared at his father. Luke walked over and read it, then showed it to Sonny, Jason, and Roy. “Lucky I want you to go to the island. Liz and Lorenzo too.” Said Sonny.
“No. I won’t run. I lived like that for the first eleven years of my life.” He looked at Liz. “You go. Take him and go back there. I’m through being scared of her.”
“Lucky don’t try to beat her. Let Sonny handle this.” Said Carly.
“I can’t. This started out against you dad. But now it’s me she wants. I got away from her when no one ever has. She doesn’t want you anymore. She wants me.”
“That’s why you have to leave.” Said Nikolas. “Lucky she’ll kill you. For real this time. You have to go.”
“I’m not-”
Jason walked over to him. “Can I talk to you alone for a minute?”
Lucky nodded and the two left the room. “Before you say anything I want to thank you. Dad told me what you did for Elizabeth.”
“It was no problem. We both needed a friend at the time. That’s what I want to talk to you about. Lucky I don’t tell people what to do. I believe people can make up their own mind. I believe they know what is right for themselves. But take Liz into consideration. After the fire she was lost. She didn’t know what to do. She hated waking up in the morning and going to sleep at night. She hated school and work. She wanted to die. If something happens to you, if you die…for real this time. Lucky I don’t think she could make it through that again.”
“You’ll take care of it? Make sure she doesn’t hurt my family? You’ll do that?”
“You have my word.”
“I’ll go.” They went back into the room. They all looked at Lucky to hear his answer. He looked at Liz. “I’ll come to the island with you.”
Liz hugged him with tears in her eyes. Lorenzo was in between them. Lucky held out his arms and the little boy gladly went into them. “I’m sorry I haven’t been here.” He whispered into the boy’s ear. Lorenzo smiled and slapped a sloppy kiss on Lucky’s cheek.
Liz went over to Jason and gave him a hug. “I don’t know what you said but thank you.”
“I didn’t take much. We have to go. Lucky I’ll be in touch. Sonny you coming?”
“Yeah.” The three of them said Goodbye to everyone and left. Emily also left after making Lucky promise to come see her before he left. Lucky still holding his son went over to his mother. He’d barely glanced at her when he came in. “I’m sorry I didn’t stay with you long when I came in.”
“I understand. It doesn’t matter. You’re here, and that does. My baby, I never expected to see you again. I always wished but I never expected. Then when we saw Lorenzo for the first time, it was like having you back all over again. He was the exact replica of you when he was born and now.” Laura was crying.
“Gamma cwy? Why ewyone cwy?”
“Cause there happy.” Said Lucky. “I know it don’t make sense but sometimes people cry when there happy.” Lorenzo nodded like it all made sense now. Lucky laughed. It almost felt like a dream. He never thought he’d be in the same room with his family again. He never thought he’d be holding his son, especially since he hadn’t known he had one. “Mom? I love you.” Lucky said out of no where.
She touched his face and smiled at him, “I love you too.”
Laura and Luke left soon after that and Lucky promised to come home soon. Bobbie hugged Lucky again and said, “Are you okay? You said they hurt you. Are you hurt anywhere now?”
“I’m fine Aunt Bobbie. A few scars and bruises but other than that I am so perfect right now.” He kissed the top of Lorenzo’s head, the boy was now sleeping.
“Why don’t you let me take him? I’ll put him in bed upstairs.” Said Roy.
“Yeah I’ll help.” Said Bobbie. Lucky new they wanted to give him time alone with Liz and his brother. When they left he looked at Nikolas. He was standing with a girl and she looked so familiar.
“So Nikky, did you loose your manors, or do you not want to introduce me?” he said.
“Well Lucas.” He said knowing it would aggravate his little brother. “I was just about to do that.”
“Oh come on guys don’t start yet.” Said Liz although she was enjoying them picking on one another.
“Lucky, this is Gina my girlfriend I live with her downstairs.”
“Wait Gina? Oh wow, I didn’t even recognize you. When did you come back to old Port Chuckles?”
“About a year ago.” She replied laughing.
“Wait how do you two know each other?” asked Liz.
“Gina is Stone- that’s the guy I told you about. The one that Robin dated. - Well Gina is his sister. She worked at dad’s club. She played a nice game of pool too.”
“When I came back I was so surprised to hear you were dead. Then I met Nik, and was even more surprised to hear he was your brother.”
“Yeah things work in mysterious ways don’t they? Roy told me you and Dad get along now?”
“I wouldn’t call it that. We’re civil to each other. We even joke around sometimes. Mom made that a condition when they got back together. You know about the breakdown?”
“Yeah. Roy mentioned it. He uh…he said she was pretty bad.”
“Yeah Helena kept pushing her. She ended up in the hospital. Nobody could get through to her and then Luke did. He was bad to. He started getting into trouble, left town some, and drank a lot.” Said Nikolas.
“So what was different?” said Lucky with a grin. He couldn’t believe this was happening. He and Liz were sitting on the couch and Nikolas and Gina were on the other couch. Can I talk to you alone for a minute?”
“Yeah man. Come down to our place.”
Liz watched them leave. She didn’t want to let Lucky out of her sight but new he had to say something to Nikolas. She even had a feeling she knew what it was that needed to be said.
“What is it man?” asked Nikolas when they got downstairs.
“First I want to tell you that even though this was all your grandmothers doing, it is not your fault. Helena is sick and she’s twisted. I don’t want you to blame yourself for this.”
“Yeah okay. I just wish I had caught on.”
“Nikolas before I uh…well died, we were just starting to be brothers. Just figuring out what that meant. A few years ago I would have died before saying this to you. I guess in a way I did huh? But anyway things change. You’re my brother and I want you…I need you to know that I love you.”
Nikolas looked at him. Both of them had tears in there eyes. “After the fire…I was in pain. I didn’t think I had a right to be. After the service I went to Mom’s house. Emily came over to help me. I’d been helping Mom and Elizabeth, she said she wanted to be there for me man. I blew up at her, yelled at her. I told her I didn’t know you the way she did, I wasn’t your family like Laura and I wasn’t entitled to mourn you like Liz was. I told her I spent most of my life hating you. Lucky what I don’t think you understand is I didn’t hate you because of the Cassidine/Spencer war.”
“Nikolas it’s okay. It doesn’t matter any more.”
“Please. Let me say this.” Lucky put his hand up for him to go on and they both sat down on the couch. “I grew up hating you Lucky. I hated you cause you had love, family, and you had our mother. But then we found away to get passed it all, and I had all that too. Except you, I had everything I ever wanted, but I didn’t have my brother. I didn’t know how to deal with that. I thought I hated you, after I thought hey he’s my friend, but then you were gone. It hurt, it hurt worse than when I hated you, it hurt worse than when I used to sit on the island in Greece and think about all the family I could have but didn’t. I never thought I’d get a chance to tell you this, and if the fire hadn’t happened I probably never would have. You’re my brother Lucky and I love you.”
The brothers hugged and then Lucky starting to feel very uncomfortable said, “Okay that’s enough. We’ve got out what we wanted to say. How about we head upstairs now.”
