What is In-Kind?

Head Start is a federally funded program. The government provides 80% of the funding. It is a requirement of the grant that Head Start obtain 20% of its grant as a local match, called In-Kind. This portion of the grant may be a donation of services, volunteer time or any type of donation that helps to enhance the services to the children and families.

The majority of In-Kind hours are collected when parents, other family members and community volunteers document their time. This time may be spent volunteering in the classroom or volunteering from home.

It is necessary to have all In-Kind contributions documented.
