The shaft for this mine was sunk in 1875, and production began in 1877. In its heyday the mine employed 400 men, and produced 600 tons of coal per day. Prduction ceased in 1920, when water from the nearby Oxcroft Mine, Flooded the workings. It was reopened in 1955, in an attempt to connect with the Creswell High Hazel seam, this was a failure and was abandoned. In 1961 the shafts were filled and capped and the site cleared. |
