The Old Cross and Village Pump.
Believed to be over 800 years old,traces of the sundial are still visible on the cross.Close by stood the old village pump, and  the village stocks ,which unusually were made of stone. Both the pump and the stocks were removed in 1930.

The Parish Church of John the Baptist.
Originally known as All Saints , the church was built  between 1135-1159. The tower was added in 1345. Many additions and changes have affected the church, though original Norman arches, stone font,and priest’s doorway remain.The roof repaired in the 14th  Century is still in place. The cchurch also contains a Miners Chapel, dedicated to the local men who died in the 1950 , Creswell Colliery Disaster, which claimed 80  lives
Southgate Colliery 1907.
The shaft for this mine was sunk in 1875, and production began in 1877.
In its heyday the mine employed 400 men, and produced 600 tons of coal per day. Prduction ceased in 1920, when water from the nearby Oxcroft Mine, Flooded the workings. It was reopened in 1955, in an attempt to connect  with the Creswell High Hazel seam,this was a failure and was abandoned. In 1961  the shafts were filled and capped and the site cleared.
