U.S. Cellular Field is the home arena of Chicago White Sox located in Chicago , Illinois . Formerly known as New Comiskey Park , the park was inaugurated on April 18, 1991 . The White Sox earlier played at Comiskey Park for 81 years. Comiskey Park was demolished in 1991 and a new stadium was built for the league. U.S. Cellular Field was built at a cost of $167 million that was first opened as Comiskey Park . In 2003, the stadium was renamed U.S. Cellular Field as U.S. Cellular bought the naming rights for $68 million over 20 years. Largely the White Sox fans that still refer to the park as Comiskey did not accept this move. The stadium is built in the parking lot of old Comiskey Park , which was brought down and is now a parking lot for the current field. Some features of the old park were retained. The lowest row of seats in the upper deck of the stadium is far from the field than the highest row of seats in the upper deck at the old stadium. The stadium includes 84 luxury suites placed on two levels in addition to the thousands of club seats on a mezzanine between the lower deck and upper deck. Since it was built, the stadium has undergone renovations a number of times like adding of a retrofit. A multi-tiered concourse beyond center field has been added to adjust the play to create uneven fences and the removal of the most distant seats at the top of the upper deck. U.S. Cellular Field has also hosted many boxing matches, including World Heavyweight Championship bouts featuring Joe Louis, Sonny Liston and Floyd Patterson.
