***The St.James Canadians have shipped another one of their top players to a team in the BCJHL. Chris Mills has been sent to the Vernon Vipers for future considerations (i.e. Cold hard cash) Mills joins fellow Canadians D.J Huver and Dwayne Gluting, who were also shipped out to teams in British Columbia.

Teams in BC have been aggressively recruiting talent from both Manitoba and Saskatchewan this past off season. While this is obviously going to have several teams in this league weaker, it should allow more Manitobans to have a crack at playing junior hockey closer to home. There is a lot of talk about teams from BC aggressively recruiting players from the prairie provinces, hoping to convince them their best chance of being recruited in in their league
While BC does have more players recruited each year, they also have more teams, and obviously, more players. The fact remains that if a player is going to earn a scholarship or an invite to a minor pro team, it doesn't matter where they play.....they're going to get noticed.
On the other hand, MJHL commissioner Frank McKinnon should take a long, hard look at teams who are dumping talnet for a few thousand dollars. That doesn't say much for those teams in particular, and this league in general.

******Swan River: Looks like the Stampeders have a real catch with new netminder Sheldon Tuck.
Being named the top player at the Junior B Western Canadian championship while going undefeated for 27 games are impressive statistics to talk about
Tuck's story is also an important one for young hockey players to remember.
His coach in North Battleford gave up on Tuck and gave him his release. It was the best thing that ever could have happened to him.
The way minor hockey is set up these days, if a player isn't a Tier 1 player by the time they're twelve, they'll never play at a high calibre. Obviously that's not true. Some players develop at a different rate than others. Sometimes coaches are totally off base. The point is young players should never give up.
Tuck's coach gave up on him in North Battleford, and all he did was go and win a Western Canadian championship, giving him another excellent opportunity at the Junior A Level. More info on Sheldon Tuck
