Nyssa and the Doctor entered the TARDIS after a day of shopping. Tegan and Adric, who had returned earlier, looked up to see that the Doctor held a large black sack with "Animal World" printed in block letters on the side, atop a picture of a smiling kitten wearing a sombrero.

"Doctor, did you buy a pet?" Adric asked.

The Doctor switched the sack to his other hand, on the side of his body away from Adric, as he mysteriously answered, "No," and strode out of the console room without further explanation.

Adric looked at Nyssa. "What was that about?"

"He wouldn't admit it to me, but I think the Doctor's planning to get a puppy," Nyssa confided with an excited smile. "He was looking at them in the shop. Then he bought a collar, and a leash, and --" She glanced at Tegan and cut herself off. "Tegan? Are you okay?"

Tegan, whose face had turned bright red, nodded. "I'm fine. I just need to go lie down for a while." She too left the console room very quickly.

Later that night, in the Doctor's bedroom, Tegan chided him, "Next time you go shopping for toys, leave Nyssa behind!"
