SPRING WORK-IN, April 30th May 8th 2005
A chance to help with restoration and maintenance of the Corn Windmill.
The mill is absolutely reliant on volunteers for its continued survival
in working order. You don't have to be a skilled millwright, our basic
requirement is just common sense and a wish to help.
This time we will be concentrating on:
Completing the flour dressing machine, for turning wholemeal into
white flour.
Work on the 2nd set of millstones, to bring them towards working
order.
Refurbishing paintwork on the sails. We realise that a head for heights
is needed for this: safety harness to be worn!
For those wishing to stay on 'terra firma', we need to re-paint the
mill doors and window frames, and sail shutters will be brought down
for refurbishing.
Begin the rebuilding of the mills wood shed, so that sails can
be repaired under cover. The rebuild will start with digging holes for
the 8 main uprights.
Wind permitting, there will be opportunities to learn to operate the
windmill.
This work-in will conclude with National Mills Weekend on May 7th-8th

LATE SUMMER WORK-IN, August 20st - 29th 2005
We will continue the work started in May. We look forward to seeing
volunteer
helpers, those who have been before and new 'apprentice millwrights'.
