Foods: (Fruit, berries)

Foods, particularly fruits, have interesting subtle textures. As an abstract substitute for human models, I use foods to practice and experiment with lighting. A healthy specimen looks equally appetizing.

BlueBerries

Title: Blue Berries
Process: Canon Optura40 (2MP), 3 desklamps + fixed halogen

More: I love blueberries. These four were difficult not to eat because they were clearly the best of the batch. I like this composition as they big and small at the same time.

Paired Pears

Title: Paired Pears
Process: Canon Optura40 (2MP), 3 lights

More: Well I saw these nice pears hanging around and wondered what made them look good. Their texture can equally be interpreted as appetizing or not. Their shape however is very organic, ripe and mature, and was the emphasis of the composition. Some Photoshop work was done to adjust colours and soften the surroundings. (*of course pears don't come in pairs, I just framed them that way)

Strawberry

Title: Strawberry
Process: Canon Optura40 (2MP), 3 lights

More: Strawberries have a seductive appeal I quite didn't understand. Aphrodisiac? Ok, but what makes it look good? I wanted to emphasise its shape. It feels bloated, stuffed and shaped like a woman in a corset. The green hat has a leaf curled up towards the camera that I feel adds character and sort of resembles a finger waving in suggestion to come over. The dimpled texture adds to an illusion that it is about to explode.

RaspBerry

Title: Raspberry
Process: Canon Optura40 (2MP), 2 lights, spoon

More: Raspberries were my friend's favourite. He absolutely loved them and advocated them to be superior to strawberries in every respect. The spoon reflected a light from behind-top to help with backlighting and even add some glow around the raspberry's mouth

How to Eat a Kiwi

Title: How to Eat a Kiwi
Process: Canon Optura40 (2MP), 2 lights

More: An empty shell. Still feels like it's good for something - but it's not. This is from my first shoot for a piece of fruit, and I like it most not even being there… Like photographing a model's clothes without the model. The tear in the back helps it look used. It looks like it was satisfying (and indeed it was - very ripe), but now its time is to be thrown aside into the dark. My motivation was rather sympathetic.
